Experience a space flight on the Euromast!

Why not make a space flight offering amazing views of Rotterdam and the world's largest port. The high speed automatic lifts are an experience in themselves. Next, experience a real rocket launch in the Space - adventure, which slowly rotates top a height of 185 metres.

    EUROMAST
It's a tower, from which one can see the whole Rotterdam as well as Belgium border (if weather permits) and take a space shuttle ride up to the very tower top!!!

One of Rotterdams most famous attractions is the Euromast, also known as Space Tower in English. This is an observation tower of 185 meters and it offers an exeptional view of Rotterdam and its surroundings.
There are possibilties to actually descend from the Euromast attached to firm ropes and in some type of armor. We use the word abseilen, but I don't know what it's called in English. Anyway, this is quite a thrilling experience. They offer this in the months June-July-August

The Euromast also has a restaurant that is worth visiting. The place has recently been re-decorated and it shows! No more old fashioned 60's family feel, but a modern, stylish look with lots of whites. (The trademark of the interior designer who did the place: Jan des Bouvrie)

The skyline of Rotterdam would not be the same without the 185 meter high Euromast. It is situated in Central Park overlooking the city. The observation tower 'Space-cabin' which circles up to 185 meters provides a spectacular view of Rotterdam and the port area. In the picture you see the shadow that this high building casts over the park!

    Euromast
The Euromast was build in 1960 on the occasion of the Floriade, a large horticultural event. The upper section (the Space Tower) was added ten years later. On a clear day, the view from the top at 185 meters above sea level is spectacular, although clear days have become rare because of smog and air pollution in general.

You have to check out the Euromast.
When you are on top of the Euromas you can see the entire city with it's huge port.
When you are on the Euromast you have to stop by the restaurant to have a drink there.
    The view is amazing.
Don't forget to bring your video camera!!!!
The reason most of rotterdam is modern is because most of it was bombed by the Germans in the second world war.
They didn't bomb City hall and the post office, because they wanted to keep it for their own use.

Are you (like me) scared of heights - Go on Top of Euromast
A superfast lift brings you to 120 meters. Nice view from there (when it's a bright day it should be even better, when we were there it was 1C and snowing). From there you can go up to 180 meters with the 'Space adventure' - you sit down and a lift brings ya up. It's turning and you have a view over the whole of Rotterdam - even through the floor of the lift. No good for me but I survived ;-) I assume it's great if you travel with kids, they will love it!

    Sky high

When in Rotterdam, make sure you climb up the Euromast tower. You'll see all of Rotterdam and beyond underneath you. Then stop off for a coffee at their restaurant and enjoy the view. We also got the chance to see people abseiling on the tower! There is also a souvenier shop near the entrance for savouring your memories on the Euromast.

    The Euromast

The Euromast is the highest building of Rotterdam and one of the most famous ones. It is a 186 metres high tower, that is very dominant in the city.

The construction of the Euromast began in 1958, because in 1960 the Floriade was held in Rotterdam. Originally the tower was 101 metres high, but when higher buildings were built in the 70´s, there was desided to expand the Euromast to its current height of 186 metres.

The tower is only 9 metres wide, rests on 1.900.000 kilos of concrete, to keep it up. At a height of 32 metres a ship´s bridge is added, that shows the life on board of a ship, and at 96 metres above ground the big crow's nest is build that can be seen in the whole of Rotterdam.

The Euromast is built at the westside of the citycentre. Everything east from the tower is the real centre of the city. At the westside you can see the first parts of the modern harbour of the city: one of the biggest in the world.

    Euromast (and nice looking

Euromast is the highest construction of the Netherlands with the height of 185 meters (year 2003).

Personally, I think it's not as good as 'Näsinneula' in my home town Tampere, worth visiting after all.

They have really made it for tourist, with the Space Adventure and all. The main platform is at about 100 meters, and from there you can take this "Space Journey" up to the 185 meters.
It gives you nice view above the city and you can also have a better view over the harbour (and industrial) area of Rotterdam from the tower than from the ground level.

The Euromast is a tower in Rotterdam, overlooking the largest port in Europe.

Originally 101 meters in height it was the tallest building in Rotterdam. It lost this position for a while, but regained it when the "Space Tower" was added to the top of the building in 1970, giving an additional 85 meters.

The Euroscoop is an revolving elevator around the "Space Tower" (with seats) that let you enjoy the view up to 185 meters.

The Euromast was designed by Hugh Maaskant. He also designed a number of notable buildings in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, notably the Hilton Hotel (1962) and Groothandelsgebouw (1951) in Rotterdam, and the Pier tower in Scheveningen (1961).

The Euromast was constructed between 1958 and 1960. For stability it is built on a concrete block so that the centre of gravity is below ground.

Euromast is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
