The museum Harbour is located just off the shopping area of center city.
A variety of ships and shore facilitities through the years is on display with much machinery in operation.

Open all year and free admission. There are guided tours and boattrips for a small fee.

The SS Rotterdam was the largest cruise liner ever built in The Netherlands (1958) and can be counted among the most succesful of its kind. Materials, furnishing and art are solely Dutch.

The SS Rotterdam is now permanently berthed in Rotterdam after having sailed the world seas for some 38 years as part of the Holland-America Line fleet.

You can visit the ship, book a table in the restaurant, enjoy theatre or organise any small or large event on the ship.

    Museum Ship Buffel

There is a district called 'Waterstad' (Water City) in a city centre. You can see different kind of maritime "equipments" and ships just by walking there.
There are also places such as musem ship 'Buffel' and the Maritime Museum - giving you some information about the past and present of the world's largest seaport, the Port of Rotterdam.

    HARBOUR MUSEUM ROTTERDAM....

I gave you a tip about the MARITIME MUSEUM.
In this map you can find that MUSEUM because I MARKED IT WITH GREEN, top left!

You can see that it also has a MUSEUM HARBOUR and the plan shows you how you can walk and I can tell you that you can also enter ships and see all kinds of special things. Very interesting, also for the kids!!

Het Witte Huis ('The White House')
Het Witte Huis ('The White House') was completed in 1898 and is 45 meters high, at the time the highest building in Europe. It was one of the few buildings in the district to survive the 1940 bombardment.

    Het Witte Huis

This house has the same name as the one in Washington, the White House. Nowadays this building doesn't look too interesting anymore, even though you can see it survived the WW II bombings, but actually when the building was finished in 1898 it used to be the tallest building of Europe!!

Go to the area called 'Oude Haven' (= Old Harbor). This is best in Summer when the many terraces are outside and you can enjoy a cold drink in the sun and watch people.

The Leuve harbour contains the maritime museum pictured here. The lighthouse is not used anymore as the harbour itself is full of open air exhibits including old Royal Dutch navy vessels.

    Oude Haven
The Old harbour is an excellent place to spend an afternoon or evening. A large number of bars and restaurants offer plenty of opportunity to enjoy food, drink and socialising. Note the Cubes!
