    black-path-scheveningen-area

Isn't this an adorable name for a seaside resort area where the utmost trendy beach-pavilions are??? Black Path - Zwarte Pad!!!

Known to all local people in Scheveningen; the Southern-beach of Scheveningen is well-known for surfing, in that way the Northern-beach is crowded with trendy beach-pavilions.

The upmost fashioned beach is along this Black Path (Zwarte Pad) where you can walk down for a good beach-walk up to Wassenaar (Wassenaarsche Slag) in Northern direction, passing the nudist beach. In the dunes behind you can make a great cycling-tour, hike in the dunes and, take a rest at a quiet piece of beach here. Or just have great fun at the beach-pavilions during the Summer-season.

From 1 March to 1 November you have to pay for the parking-places on the Strandweg (beforehand at the parking-automatic machines) and the Black Path/Zwarte Pad (on the way when you leave). From 1 November to 1 March (Winter-season) the parking is all free here!

No dogs allowed from 15 May to 1 Oktober

    Scheveningen street scene

Take your time to stroll around Scheveningen a bit. Just behind the boulevard between the Kurhaus and the harbour is a nice area with all small old houses like on the picture. And even though it is very close to the boulevard, there are usually very few tourists here..

Teh most northwest part of westduinpark

Not far from the Scheveningen harbour you find Westduinpark. It actually stretches all the way from Scheveningen to kijkduin and is a designated proteted area due to its combination of dunes and more tree-like landscape.

Walk past the harbours to the south and follow untill you have to crosse the stream. At teh other side of the stream you find this park

    SCHEVENINGEN - 100st BIRTHDAY

    harbour-scheveningen

A Hooray for Scheveningen Harbour, too! Scheveningen celebrated its 100st birthday (since November 26, 1904). Scheveningen (the north-west part of The Hague) was proud, The Hague was proud ... with all kind of events.

Visiting Scheveningen Harbour is more than pleasant. Go to Heaven 2 and see the Marina and its yachts, walk around and see the Museum Ship, located on the war-ship A-856, an ex-mine-sweeper built in 1952 (at right on the pic).

As well in summer- as in winter-time people love to visit this spot, also for a delicious sea-food snack you can get around. Try to get in touch with an original "Scheveninger", the locals who are very proud of their fishing-village. They love to tell about their legends ...

    LADY SCHEVENINGEN

If you go for a walk in the Keizerstraat, Scheveningen, you could head for the beach and, walk along the Scheveningen boulevard to the Pier. You'll pass (at the end of the Keizerstraat) a beautiful statue of a fisher-woman. She's the patroness of the fisher-women, close to the Old Church. She is mourning for them who never returned from sea. The statue has been created by artist Gerard Bakker in 1982. She reminds me of Deae Nehalennia, the only Goddess of Dutch origin ... I am very fond of the image of this strong Lady Scheveningen.

Scheveningen' secret to me is >>> ZUIDERSTRAND

That is the Southern Beach with its own beach resort artea. It is a popular beach area, too, for the Wicca and Druide people who carry their rituals into effect here. Also the Fool-Moon worshippers come here with Full Moon night, the Goddess-admirers love the beach area, and teh Elves-path must be here somewhere, too ...

Wann have a real beach party time ? Keep the name of "Schollenpop" in mind (meaning plaice-fish pop music, heeheeh ) ... with good life musci bands.

The beach is very clean, so have a great beach-day here, watching the old, traditional Scheveningen fisherman near the lighthouse. Walking down Southwards there is the nudist beach. And we also practise the Indonesian sport Satria Nusantara at this remarkable beach.

Got interested ... don't miss this phantastic beach area - my fave spot !!!

    Meeting Point

    obelisk-scheveningen

See here a magnificent, white obelisk you cannot miss. It is the area of a little roundabout and familiar for meeting eachother which I never understood why.

Yes, you do have some parking places here, and along the Zwarte Pad (Black Path, see above) you can park your car, too. Though you have to come very early in the morning and maybe when lucky you will find a place ...

This area namely is the end of the road of Gevers Deynootweg and the end of Scheveningen, too. Here the dunes begin at the Zwarte Pad/Black Path where the beach is your friend, and the ocean your pleasure.

So every year a long row of cars is waiting along the Gevers Deynootweg to find their way in the heat of the day and ... ending at the little roundabout with the obelisk. Next to this monument you'll find a "Biesieklette" to stall your bike ...

So you know for next time when you got stuck in the Scheveningen row.

    Special Sign Board

    sign-board-scheveningen

Walking on the Boulevard of Scheveningen most people miss the special board sign where you can read and see how the tidal currents cause their strength.

You can get an idea how unpredictable and very dangerous the sea-water can be!

And where and when it is safe to swimm!

The special sign has been specially designed on a wooden, prepared board because of the sea-water and you can read explanations under the board.

You can find this special sign board on the Boulevard in front of the Kurhaus-building along the beach-line.

    Scheveningen Obelisk

This Obelisk marks the place where William IV. (later King William I.) made its first step onto the Netherlands in 1813 after his exile in England.

You will find it near the strandweg at the southwestern end of the boulevard. The tram station (scheveningen Haven) of line number 11 is just a few steps away.

    Nudebeach

Between markers 96,5 – 98 is the nude beach of Schevingen. The beach is about 3 kilometers long. Its located near the Zwarte pad. You can go by tram to The Zwarte pad, just cross the dunes and you are at the beach. To all of you, if you go to a nudebeach don't wear swimwear because there are still much more textile beaches than nudebeaches.

It is great to walk around in Scheveningen Harbour and you will have some very nice views.

Though when walking a little further on enjoy the ships and sailing boats on their way to the North Sea, or just entering the harbour.

With stormy weather see the dramatic sky,
and the ocean turning into deep-green colours like she is changing into a turbulent savagery to be feared deeply.
