For the time being you can stil park for free behind Schiedam Centrum train station.
Have a look at the map.
Coming from the A13, you take exit Europoort westwards (the A13 ends here), and take exit 11 Schiedam (you pass exit 12 Spaanse polder first). You follow the curve and pass under the motorway A20, take first traffic lights to the left (Burgemeester van Haarenlaan).
(Essentially you'll be driving a tight circle around the station)
Then take first traffic lights to the right (the station is at your left).
Follow the bend, turn right (you'll see the bus station and main station entrance on your right), follow the road bending to the right, you pass under the Burgemeester van Haarenlaan), there are two bumps in the road to slow down speed, after the 2nd bump, just after the tall office building on your right, turn right and onto the parking lot. It'll be quite full during a weekday but I've always been able to park.
Enter train station (back entrance) and walk to the front to choose either train or metro.
The parking is NOT where the P is on this map but a little bit above it. The parking is just below the Paralleweg which is just south of the A20 motorway. Follow driving directions above and you'll get there.

Subway into the city
We used the subway to get to the city centre of Schiedam. The subway has 4 stops in Schiedam. It's relatively cheap and fast...
They just finished the subway station last year. For traveling you will need to buy somekind of ticket. There are a few choices.
If you have to travel regular you could by a week, month or year membership for a set amount of zones. When you are just visiting once or just a few times over a period of time you could better by "Strippencards".
These come in different sizes depening or where you by them. But in general you can say the larger the amount of strips the more economical they are. Sizes ranges from 2 to 45 strips.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH A STRIP
Rotterdam is divided in 11 zones, for every zone you need to travel you will need 1 strip.
After you found out the amount of zones you have to travel through (displayed on maps around the station) you have to stamp your card. You'll have to remind if you need to travel through 3 zones you'll have to stamp the fourth strip. (3 zones will get you from Vlaardingen to Rotterdam).
When you stamp your card there's also a time stamped on your card. Your allowed to travel through the zones you payed for, for a limited time only.
2 to 4 strips 1 hour
5 to 7 strips 1,5 hours
8 to 10 strips 2 hours
11 to 16 strips 3 hours
17 to 20 strips 3,5 hours
You can travel on all forms of public transportation with a strippencard around Rotterdam. This can be a great advantage when you compare it to a train ticket which is only valid on the train.
There are special pink strippencards for childeren aged 4 to 11 and peoples carrying a 65+ senior citizen pass. These card have a reduced fair.

To Schiedam via Train or Metro
Schiedam's train station is located on one of the busiest train lines in the Netherlands (Rotterdam-Den Haag). That means that there are several trains per hour stopping in Schiedam. But that's not the only possibility to get there. Schiedam's train station is also part of Rotterdam's metro system. I don't remember the exact amount of stripes you have to stamp, but I think it was three or four, if you come from Rotterdam Centraal.

Take your own floaters
Well what to do if the bridges are open, or crowded and your in a hurry ?
Just throw your floaters in the water and lasso a rope to the other side and go over the water.
Be sure to take some extra clothes for if you fall in to the water.
