The Hague (Den Haag, officially 's-Gravenhage) is the capital city of the province of South Holland. It is the third largest city of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In the fifteenth century the more formal 'des Graven hage' came into use, literally "the count's wood".
The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Council of State, but the city is not the capital of the Netherlands.
I visited it for an excursion back in December of 1995. Watching my video I’m still on the waves of my memory.
You can watch my 3 min 08 sec Video The Hague out of my Youtube channel or here on VT.
Favorite thing:
There are many places to visit which are not in the city center. You can reach Scheveningen with its beach and the miniature city of Madurodam by tram, the Haagse Bos (with Huis ten Bosch, the residence of queen Beatrix) is a wood area within the city which is a few minutes away from the central station.
Many other cities are less than half an hour away of Den Haag, including Delft and Leiden and even Rotterdam is not far away.
You can find Scheveningen and Madurodam tips among the tips of The Hague, but even as they are part of the city, they are treated as own destinations in VT. So it may be useful to visit these sites too. For the cities mentioned above, it is recommendated that you visit the respective pages.
Fondest memory:
For me, this is one of the largest advantges in Den Haag: You can visit so many different places in just a single day.
Favorite thing:
The Hague is one of Holland's best-kept secrets.
It is home to the Dutch royal family and the country's seat of government.
It is leafy, urbane and civilised.
It also has plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants and museums.
Favorite thing:
I went with my friend to this cafe in Korte Poten in The Hague (the backyard of the Parliment).
This cafe is famous for their homemade 'Apple Strudel' and 'Sacha Torte'(chocolate cake).
Not forgetting their nice coffee too.
You can buy this cake from their cafe too, if you like to take it home and enjoy it with your friends and family.
Very good quality for the price you pay for those fresh bakeries.
Fondest memory:
All those cafes and eateries around The Hague, so many choice for a person who likes to sample different kinds of food.
Just went there with my friends lately for a cup of nice coffee and cake.
A bit disappointed, as their cakes are not as tasty as before, especially their famous chocolate cake. Am wondering why?
Favorite thing:
The Hague is the provincial town of South-Holland. The dunes have protected this area in a natural way and, that's why the dunes play an upmost important role in the production-process of Dunes-Water Company South Holland. It is of great importance the dune-area is taken care of.
Fondest memory:
The Hague and Wassenaar are careful to its dunes and, although special dune-keepers pay attention and do their job, the best caretakers are the people themselves.
Have a great walk into the dunes ... A beautiful, peaceful area and, see my little doggy Jawa running with its green ball ...
Favorite thing:
The area around Wassenaar is of legendary time with its ancient coastline on which the older dunes developed. Surprisingly the present-day dune area originated around 1000 AD. Walking around I do make up my phantasy about the combined influence of the sea and the river Rhine that resulted in the former formation when the Rhine became the River of No Return.
Fondest memory:
For now Wassenaar still has the most beautiful dunes-area and, walking from Meijendel to the beach of Wassenaarse Slag (in about 45 minutes) you may imagine the presence of a settlement already in the early bronze Age, about 1.800 BC. See all sorts of plants and animal/bird species. To me a phantasmal, a memory out of dreams ...

Using make-up (I am a make-up artist) I know the white light is filled with all the primary colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Waterdrops and prisms can separate light into parts that we see as rainbow colors. Make-up could be created by little balls of the rainbow colors which make a light, transparent coverage on the face ...
Fondest memory:
When a rainbow shows up looking out of my window a happy feeling gets through body and mind, thinking of sun and rain together. And travelling in mind to Southern Java, where it is said the Spirit-queen does hide within the rainbow (indeed you see hundreds of thousand rainbows in the bursting waves). Enjoy your own rainbow experience!

Favorite thing:
The name Monster is probably coming from the name Monasterium, the latin word for monastery.
This name was ofter given to a piece of land the was owned by the monasery.
Favorite thing:
Wassenaar village is easy to get around.
Wassenaar is a welknown Dutch village situated on the coast. It consists of a small village centre with shops, the themepark Duinrell, route to the beach etc. Surrounding the village centre are the larger houses trailing in all directions:
towards the beach you have Rijksdorp, towards Scheveningen you have Wassenaar Zuid (South) In Wassenaar South are a few castles, that are now used for banquets, parties, wedding receptions (Kasteel Oud Wassenaar and De Wittenburg) And dotted in between and around are different large estates that have good cycle or walking paths (Meyendell, de Horsten towards Voorschoten to name but a few) Its a beautiful venue if you enjoy cycling, walking and taking in the scenery.
Favorite thing:
A little meet again at The Hague, at De Zwarte Ruiter!
This time with Eric, "Towerpower", living in the UK, and at the moment staying in Brussels.
The weather was sunny and the place was crowded ... we had a nice chat, and happy to inform Eric some about The Hague.
