International organisations, The Hague
Favorite thing: In 1895, the architect Berlage designed a building for the insurance company 'De Nederlanden van 1845' on the corner of Gravenstraat / Prinsestraat. This is regarded as the predecessor of the Beurs van Berlage ( former Stock Exchange ) in Amsterdam, which is a listed building. The edifice has meantime been renovated and returned to its original condition. The site now houses offices, shops and storerooms.
Favorite thing: At present The Hague is home to a number of international organisations including such important international judicial institutions as the International Court of Justice and the UN Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Various European organisations, such as Europol, have also chosen to establish their headquarters in The Hague. As a result a number of international education organisations have followed including the European Association of International Education, the Centre of Higher Education Policy and the The Hague Academy of International Law.
