North Sea Jazz Festival, The Hague

When the North Sea Jazz Festival was in The Hague people came from all over to join this true music happening, ranging from traditional New Orleans jazz to AvantGarde jazz, from gospels to Latin and world beat, from R&B to funky soul.

It was a Dutch jazz promotor who brought the first edition (North Sea Jazz Festival) to The Hague, July 1976. NSJF is his brainchild, and jazz legends like Count Basie, Lady Sarah Vaughan and Dizzy Gillespie, included the Dutch avant-garde, performed at the Jazz Festival at the opening.

Unfortunately and so sadly the very last NSJF time in The Hague was in July, 2005 (sigh, sigh). Next will be in Rotterdam. Still The Hague people never forget the good old times of the NSJF!

As a part of the annual North Sea Jazz Festival, Scheveningen puts on a magnificent fireworks display near the famous Pier.

If you do happen to be here during this world famous festival please head down there and grab a seat at one of the many cafes with a beer and enjoy the skyworks.

North Sea Jazz Festival, the largest jazzfestival in Europe. More than 300,000 people will visit this festival in 3 days, to see the most important artists, playing jazz, blues, jazzdance, soul, funk and gospel. Artists like Maceo Parker, James Brown, Jocelyn Brown, Herbie Hancock, Buena Vista Social Club and D´Angelo had their performance here. This year Erykah Badu is the main guest at the 26th edition.
