Rijswijk is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It is a suburb of The Hague.

I visited the NEA Transport Hogeschool (NTH), a university of professional education in transport, in December of 1995.

NEA Transport research and training is an independent organization specialized in research, consultancy and training services in the field of traffic, transport, infrastructure and logistics.
It supplies training programmes for transport management, multimodal transport, logistics, and ports, traffic safety and infrastructure. Furthermore: training-the-trainers, establishment of training centers, strengthening of training centers.

    Dutch Cows To See

    cows-in-polder-landscape-thehague

The Hague is one of the "randsteden" (the rim-shaped agglomeration of cities in the westerly part of the Netherlands). Some think of an over-crowded industrial area where it has been clipped its wings of nature. Well, not a word of truth in it!

You can make some great cycle-trips, and The Hague has special rules to please its cycle-friends. And it's a great deal the sightseeing by bicycle you can do in a relatively short time.

You want to see cows near The Hague? That is possible my dear. If you turn your back on the coastline of Holland and set course inland, you will land in the exceedingly Dutch polder landscape; excellent base for cycling trips in the polders (from The Hague to Leiden, Delft or Hoek van Holland).

Let the cows catch your eye set in a polder landscape, go by car or bicycle and, maybe you can stop to watch the cows being milked. Remember when all cows come together of a sudden the milkman has to be very close ...

    QUEEN ANNA PAULOWNA

by RoyJava Updated Oct 19, 2007 1368 reviews

See here the Queen Anna Paulowna, actually grand duchess Pavlovna of Russia from the Dynasty of Romanov (do not confuse her with famous ballet-dancer Anna Pavlova who has lived in The Hague, too).

Queen Anna Paulowna (Januari 18 1795 - March 1 1865) was married to the latter king William II of the Netherlands. She lived for a while in The Hague, and was very socially connected with the The Hague people. So some companies of The Hague honoured her with a beautiful statue, designed by the Russian sculptor named Alexander Taratynov (Moskou 1956).

It is a bronze statue of Anna Paulowna on the Anna Paulownaplein (Square of Anna Paulowna), sitting all alone between some beautiful trees. All the names of the companies are on a plaque and the statue is signed by Taratynov 1999.

The little square is in the magnificent Mesdag-area. You could visit the Mesdag museum and go for a walk, have a nice drink on one of the very nice terraces. There is no tram way or bus line, the ones which come as close as possible are tram way 1 - 10, and bus line 22 - 24.

Ofcourse this beautiful statue belongs to my "Public Women Of The Hague and so happy I found her not that long ago ...

    lake-wassenaar

A bit tired of the hectic life in center of The Hague? Well, this is superb to experience ...

Head for the Meijendel, Wassenaar. Maybe a delicious pancake could wake up your appetite to go for a walk to the shore of Wassenaar. You'll enjoy the peaceful area of the dunes here. You'll pass the "Hague Water Supply" (see above for info) ...

Right there some beautiful views will turn you into a super-natural harmony with nature. Remind me in your little meditation, thank you!

    Meer En Bos

by RoyJava Updated Jul 13, 2005 1368 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    meer-en-bos-thehague

The "Eilandjes Meer en Bos" (Small Islands of Lake and Woods) is a beautiful located walking area. It is the so called "green wood area", close to the dunes. People go there for a walk any time of the year, mostly with their dog (so it is "dogs-allowed"). When lucky you can see the "Fly Agaric" paddos (see above).

The birds-patronage of The Hague takes care of the birds here so they can breed their youngs. The small islands especially are closed and prohibited areas to public, though you can watch the beauty from distance ... I do love the walks in this very clean "Eilandjes Meer en Bos" (head for Kijkduin and dunes) even I do prefer the beach and ocean air ...

    You Like Paddo's???

by RoyJava Updated Jul 13, 2005 1368 reviews

    fly-agaric-mushroom-thehague

The famous mushroom "Fly Agaric" (Dutch Vliegenzwam, Amanita muscaria in Latin) is growing almost everywhere. Yep, it's listed poisonous, however no reports directly point to its deadly fatality. And the ancient Greeks used this paddo, like the pre-Hindi, who named this famous red-with-white-points paddo SOMA.

When autumn you can find the "Fly Agaric" in the woods close to oaks, firs and birch-trees (in The Hague go to "Meer-En-Bos" wood, where the photograph has been taken). It's said the paddo's only grow after August, though you can find it already in July after a good shower of rain. And maybe the religious use of "Fly Agaric" has been documented among Siberians, American Sami-Indians, and the Japanese in modern times, be carefull! When using high doses it will be very poisonous to sensitive persons ...

    bamboo-thehague

Did you know "Bamboo" is the fastest growing plant? Because bamboo kids/shoots sprout like fire from its parents. And bamboo can grow in a lot of different climates, so you can find this bamboo in The Hague, the Meer en Bos, a beautiful park-area to walk around, dream away and hold your love ...
