by rsilva There are two floors. On the top, there is the traditional restaurant the bottom floor comprises U-shaped Teppan tables with a "cooking plate" in the middle. I've only tried the second option and I really recommend it (please note the menu varies slightly depending on which floor you are on). You might have to share space at the table unless you are a large group (more than 5-6 people). The food then arrives raw on a plate and is prepared, in front of you, by a very skillful chef and is served the moment it is done. It is fascinating to see the preparation process - that alone is half the fun of eating here. It is fun to see that the cook will turn off the light every time he prepares something "flambe". What can you say about the actual food? Just that it is great! I've been here twice and every single dish I had was great. The waitresess dress in the traditional Japanese Kimono and are extremely polite! Our cook was also very nice and friendly. It is a well-known fact that Japanese restaurants are expensive and this restaurant is no exception. Menu's (3-5 course) range from 32 to 70 Eur per person, so don't go if you are on a budget.
- The tuna, the salmon, the prawns. The fish is very fresh and cooked in a way that particularly pleases me. - The sirloin, the tenderloin. I am a great meat fan and it is nice to have it prepared in a slightly different way (it is sliced as you will not be able to cut it with the sticks :)). Don't get me wrong, I love a nice steak, but this is great because it is different. Everything was great, but these are the ones that come to mind. We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while since the menu appealed to us and the restaurant looked nice from the outside. Three times we came by without a reservation and on all occasions we were sent back as there were no tables available. Finally, one day we decided to go really early to make sure we got a place and we managed to get seated. Since it was our first time, we were told that there are no starters or mains as in a regular restaurant, just medium-sized portions that are meant to be shared by everyone at the table. The waiter then said that usually 2 portions per person are more than enough. We ordered raw tuna (sushi style), raw beef and oysters with cucumber pur?... Everything was absolutely great. Tuna was very fresh and tasty (If you are going to eat it raw, it must be). The beef was marinated in a garlic sauce and was cut thicker than Carpaccio, but was extremely tender and tasty. Then came the oysters... the cucumber pur? was an unusual but excellent choice. To finish we had a dessert plate (you get a bit of everything) comprising some sort of "creme brulee", home-made icecream and chocolate cake. Yummy... On top of the excellent food, service was also matching. All waitresses/waiters were extremely friendly and efficient. At a certain point, one waiter broke a glass on our table. He apologized and removed everything (plates, cutlery, glasses, water bottle, napkins, etc) and brought new ones. Also, he camed to clean the table with a damp cloth between servings. I usually have to beg to have my table cleaned... At about 35 Eur per person, it is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I will definetly go back. Update: We ate here again yesterday and it was very good, only complaint is the menu which is the same as one year ago. This time we tried the "stirfried tuna belly", but it was not as good as any of the other dishes we tried (a bit to greasy as the fish itself is already a bit fat). The veal sirloin with humus and black sesame seeds was very nice though.

The Caribbean section by rsilva If you are looking for something unusual, this is definetly the place for you. The restaurant is divided in several areas/sections all with an own decor/ambient and menu: - Asian, Middle Eastern, French, Carribean and the prison (there are two small prison cells where you can sit and eat). When I first visited this place, all areas were open and you could eat in any of the rooms and choose the appropriate food. The last couple of times, only one of the rooms was available and there was a mixed menu with asian/caribbean, etc. dishes. The food has always been good. There is nothing special that I can remember, though. I think this is a nice place to take friends/family for a different experience. When you are done, you must climb the stairs (by the restrooms) to the Buddah Bar for a drink. by rsilva For some reason, this restaurant has become our backup option when in the Hague, mainly because it offers many different kinds of food: - Teppan Yaki beef - Down under super grill (kangaroo, springbock and dear, I think) - Nachos Gigantes - Duck "ŕ l'orange", etc. Sometimes this approach is successful (the grill is quite good), other times not (the nachos are not very good). One of my favorite starters is the beef carpaccio. The one they serve here is OK, although I can't stand the garlic dressing and using the word "Parmesan cheese" could probably cause them to get a lawsuit from an angry Italian as what they put on top is no real Parmesan, but the kind you buy for 50 cents a package and tastes like sawdust. What I don't like about this place is the service. We arrived and sat down at 21.25. Immediately, the waitress came and said we had 5 minutes to make a choice. I understand that the kitchen must close, but I really hate to be rushed. This is also noticeable if you have a special request. My girlfriend wanted some salad/vegetables instead of fries with her dish. We were told it "is not possible" and that "if you want, you can order it on the side, but it will cost you more". The service is just ineffective. You have to repeat orders for drinks almost every time, as they always seem to forget it. Last time we were there I ordered dessert and a glass of tap water. We then had 2 more waitresses coming to ask if we wanted to order something else (they were in a hurry to close), however after 15 minutes I still had not gotten my ice cream, so I had to order it again. I then got bottled water, which costs 1.70 Eur for 20cl, which was not what I had ordered so I sent it back. Needless to say, it was on the bill when I went to pay. If you order before 18.00 any day and the whole evening Monday-Wednesday you get one 3-course menu for half the price. Menu’s range from 14.50 to 19.50. The only reason I would still consider going there again is the fact they have some unusual dishes.

by Nathalie_B City Mondial has so many wondeful places - shops, museums, cafes, restaurants... you name it. The "Scallywags" is another place that was introduced by Sandra (Mique). It is a very tiny English tearoom that serves, probably, the best breakfasts in town! Didn't try the scones myself, but by if you see the faces of people that eat them, you'll realize that they taste really good. The specialty of Scallywags is definitely the ommlettes, my choice was with spinach, cheddar cheese and herbs, if you're there give it a try!!! If you happened to be at Scallywags during the Spring/Summer time then you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the home made ice tea. We tried two, kiwi and srawberry, it was really good. Service is good, the personnel is very friendly and helpfull and the nice decirations add to the wonderful atmosphere as well. by Nathalie_B I found this place thanks to VT member Mique, she definitely has a very good taste in restaurants. This is a very small neighborhood Chinese restaurant that serves really good food. For about 6 Euro you can get a very big meal which is big enough for 2-3 people(Lunch special) and if you're interested in some chef's specials the price will be 9-12 Euro. The portions are huge!!! by Nathalie_B This cafe is located on the Kijkduin promenade and serves pancakes and poffertjes (mini-pankcakes). The food is great, the only problem is service. I've been to this place several times and noticed that service is very slow there. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it is a normal thing in the Netherlands to wait a long time to be served in a cafe or restaurant. The best thing to do is try to adapt to the slow service and to enjoy the food.
It's a pancake house, so be ready to find a long list of pancakes and poffertjes Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Kijkduin promenade, The HaguePhone: 070- 368-1388

Mique and her camera :-) by Nathalie_B During the one of my visits to The Hague, I found myself in this restaurant with Sandra (Mique), who invited me for a dinner to celebrate my B-Day. The decorations inside are beautiful. The restaurant itself has about 4 or 5 dining rooms and has a menu where you can find pretty much every kind of food. Mainly Carribean, Asian, and African. And the food is good!! But.....the service was terrible and so slow. Although the restaurant wasn't fool Sandra and I had to , literally, chase our waiter to place an order. And I'm not talking about extras, like asking for salt or ketchup, these arrived after we finished the dinner! :-) Leave a Comment

Cafe Restaurant 't Goude Hooft by robertgaz There are great cafes from one end of the Netherlands to the other. The Dutch love strong perculated coffee usually black with sugar to taste. And you will always find a tempting range of biscuits and cakes to feed that sweet tooth. Leave a Comment
