I've seen Escher's works in my life, but never knew who created them! Well, I know now, was nice to finally find it out. Shame on me!!! :-(
Visiting the museum is definitely a great experience, and be ready to spend there at least 2-3 hours, if not more.
In the museum itself, besides the works collection, you can keep your kids (and yourself) busy, putting them behind a computer with sofisticated games, created based on Escher's drawings.
And while in the museum, pay attention to the ceiling, not only to the walls, there's another nice surprise awaits you.

Admission fee for adults is 7,5 Euro. Worth every cent!!!!

This building houses the centre of music, dance, art and culture where you may enjoy exhibitions, theatre performances, dance, as well joining courses, classes and workshops of all kind of art disciplines. There are events for kids, special groups, and Koorenhuis do arrange festivals all over The Hague.

The Koorenhuis (Corn House) originally is from the 17th century and used to be the business house and storage for corn. Only the outer wall and entrance hall have been left when a modern building was built in the 19th century, and to put up the centre for music, dance, art and culture.

Abraham Bredius was an art Historian and collector and between 1895 and 1922 he was also director of the Mauritshuis. He died in 1946 and left his collection of 17th and 18th century art to the city of The Hague. It included paintings by Jan Steen and Rembrandt. The museum is housed in a lovely 18th century mansion on the north side of the Hofvijver. It houses antique furniture, porcelain and lovely silverwork.

For any art-painter this building is very important, 'cause the PULCHRI STUDIO is "Home of The Hague Art Society". It was opened in 1901 and "toute La Haye" will come to see important paintings, to discuss and to buy these. Hopefully one day my paintings will be important enough ...

Isn't she beautiful? On top of the extraordinary monumental urban socle of the square Plein 1813 you see the "Virgin of Holland" monument with flying colours proudly standing in front of its lion, created by artist J.Ph. Koelman (1818-1893). In November 1863 one layed the foundation-stone and, the Virgin of Holland got unveiled on 17th. of November, 1869.

In 2004 she got a beauty clean-up by bronze-founder Bert Binder in Haarlem and, see how beautiful the national Virgin of Holland looks down for now, although you cannot watch her from close ... most people see her in a flash passing by by car, by bus or by tram! See her at my >>>

PUBLIC WOMEN - THE HAGUE

The Museum of Communication, The Hague, is an informative museum, where you can do different things, included for the kids with a lot of fun. The museum is an eye opening exhibition of visual communication with beautifully carved Lady-statues when entering. Coming exhibition is "Queen Beatrix - 25 years - in art" (until 31th of October 2005).

The Museum of Communication celebrated its 75th birthday last year on May 18th. The Museum for Communication focuses on communications, the latest developments in the fields of post and telephone, but also postal stamps and antique telephones. When visiting this museum you pass Panorama Mesdag (same street).

One Hooray for MUSEON. For Museon had celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2004. The former Museum for Education has become a popular scientific museum as well as a structural and highly valued partner in primary and secondary education. The Museon's collection now comprises 260.000 items.

My last visit was to admire the paintings/drawings of Rudolf Du Bonnett (a Dutch-man who had lived at Indonesian Bali) and, always visit the Museon to buy some great post-cards. Speciality ... when you sneak from the back-door you can visit the Omniversum, too ...

Open: Tuesday to Sunday 11 am - 5 pm
Museon is closed every Monday (except during school holidays), Christmas Day and New Year's day.

The statue of Jantje, an illustration of a Dutch nursery rhyme: "In Den Haag daar woont een graaf, en zijn zoon heet Jantje". I've read other translations of the Dutch text on VT, but in my English translation I stick to the original metre (lines containing six or seven syllables) and I've copied the somewhat cripple rhyme of the original text:

In Den Haag daar woont een graaf
en zijn zoon heet Jantje.
Als je vraagt waar woont je Pa
dan wijst hij met zijn handje....
Met zijn vinger en zijn duim...
Op zijn hoed draagt hij een pluim

Lange Voorhout is a small avenue with trees and small grass areas. It has mostly governmental buildings and emassies on its sides and some musea at the end. In the summer, you will find a large number of sculptures from different artists there.

See the beauty of the old City-Hall of the Hague (from 1546 AD) which was much more inpressive than the new one and, still exists. The tower was added at the end of the 17th century.

The old building in Renaissance-style was a replica of the cityhall of Antwerp, exept it is much smaller (The Hague was also much smaller than capital Antwerp in the 1560's). People still marry here for its great architecture and romantic view. And notice the upper-most statue, ... it is the Goddess Of Justice ...
