Den Haag: the new town hall

This is not a must-see, it's a will-see. Unfortunately. An excellent example of modern Lego-inspired architecture with a touch of 1930's is this huge shiny plastic-looking white building, designed by Richard Meier, one of the most overrated architects if our time. An entire neighbourhood full of old buildings was destroyed to make room for this ugly piece of crap and some other modern buildings. It's because of this sort of buildings that The Hague is usually ignored by architecture-minded tourists. Such a thing does not belong in an old centre.

The Hague is defined as the biggest village in Holand. In fact, although it is the seat of the Dutch Government and Parliament and the capital of South Holland, it still looks like a quite town. Actually, the city started to develop only after the Middle Ages and progressivle got importance until our days.
The Hague is one of the diplomatic cities in the world: apart from the International Justice Court, that has its seat here, many Conventions and Treaties have been discussed here. Of course, the Embassies to the Netherlands are also in this city.

Attractions and museums galore
The Hague offers a wide range of things to do for the whole family. One of the most popular is a visit to Miniature City Madurodam. Another one is leaning back comfortably in the gigantic dome-shaped theater Omniversum to enjoy a film. The Museon is the most attractive non-specialist museum in Holland. If you would like to experience the daily routine of national politics, a visit to the Parliament Buildings will be right up your sleeve. Quite a different kettle of fish are the splashing good fun attractions in Duinrell, which include the tropical Tiki Pool. The fascinating under water world of National Sea Life Scheveningen is well worth a visit. Taking a risk in Holland Casino Scheveningen or betting on a horse at Duindigt Race Course is always exciting.
1) National Sea Life Scheveningen
Discover the world beneath the waves of the North Sea which is brimming with amazing creatures including sharks, wrasses, rays and jellyfish. Walk through the eight-metre long tunnel and experience a sensation of walking on the seabed. Do not miss the underwater observatory and the Tropical Reef Adventure with its wonderful coral reef either.

2)Duinrell Attraction Park
Duinrell Attraction Park offers splashing recreation for the whole family. Hurl yourself down terrifying bobsleigh tracks, spin down the splashing Waterspin and roll along the Frogs' roller coaster. The indoor tropical Tikibad is also an experience in itself. This swirling water world offers splashing Attractions for young and old.

3) Miniature City Madurodam.
All of Holland in just one town!
Behind two typically Dutch dykes lies the world-famous miniature city Madurodam, a perfect place to get to know all the fascinating aspects of the Netherlands. Here you will find all those famous Dutch feats rebuilt down to the tiniest detail on a scale of 1:25. Windmills are turning, round trip boats are sailing the canals, a fire is extinguished in the harbour, modern trains are running to and from the stations. There is also a great deal to do in winter. But Madurodam is more. At dusk, the town is lit like a fairy-tale by more than 50,000 lights. The two restaurants, the playground, shop and lighthouse picnic area complete the park.

More than anything The Hague is a people's city, which accounts for the large number of ( international ) school, 600 café's, bars and restaurants, various religious institutions and countless sporting facilities. It is a 'green' city as well, with plenty of parks, lawns and green areas. The North Sea coast is right on the city's doorstep. The beach attracts both residents and visitors alike, as do the many theaters and annual events such as the famous North Sea Jazz Festival.
