tourist-card-zuiderstrand by RoyJava The Hague is a beautiful city behind the dunes (chanted in the famous song "Den Haag achter de duinen" by Harrie Jekkers & Koos Meinderts) and today still known as "the largest village of Europe". With too much of history and soap royalty. And some spirituality; a special path for elves still can be found in The Hague's centre, coming from inland and going to the dunes of Scheveningen to the North Sea. The coastal region is about 9 km all to Monster, and near the old harbour of The Hague there's its beach named "Zuiderstrand" (Southern Beach/Pantai Selatan). See Homepage for the sunset-pic ... Here some rituals are carried into effect, like the ones of the Druides, the Wicca's, the Lesbians, the Fool-Moon People, Goddess-admirers, and the Elves-Path must be here somewhere, too... And when wanna have party-time there is the Schollenpop, with life music bands here! The beach is very clean, so have a great beach-day here, watching the old, traditional Scheveningen fisherman near the lighthouse. Walking down Southwards there is the nudist beach. And we also practise the Indonesian sport Satria Nusantara at this remarkable beach. Got interested ... don't miss this phantastic beach - my fave spot !!! Leave a Comment

kurhaus-scheveningen by RoyJava This is the ***** Kurhaus, known by the elder as Huis-Ter-Geul (Home-At-Geul), opened its doors in June 1892. Find your way to this beautiful building, in limestone fabricated and, feel the distinguished romance that the Grand Old Lady (also a name for Kurhaus) granted its festive grace and grandeur. Royal personalities, moviestars, and artists yielded the past to dancers, models and, the international public. Walk down "De Pier", a roofed over promenade pier in front of the Kurhaus. Try a Bungy-Jump with a lot of fun around. The beach and boulevard of Scheveningen are famous, loved and visited the whole year round to numerous festivities, from a flying and firework festival to music events and sand-sculpture competitions. Extra firework you may enjoy to watch in August ... Leave a Comment

art-nouveau-thehague by RoyJava When going from The Hague's center, for a drive to Loosduinen - Kijkduin (beach area) the best way is via Laan van Meerdervoort. This beautiful long street has been built with houses directed Loosduinen - Kijkduin from 1875 and about 1960 when completed, Laan van Meerdervoort had become Europe's largest street! See the magnificence of several classic styles of architecture like Art Nouveau, Neo-Gothic and Eclecticisme, which was a reaction upon Neo-Gothic. At my photograph you see the famous Neo-Classicism from 18th century, created by The Hague architect J. Olthuis (1851-1921). It's mixed with Belgian-French Art Nouveau tile scenes ... A bit furtheron you'll find the "Haganum Gymnasium" in Neo-Renaissance style. And it is nice to know that the Albert Heijn supermarkt at the corner is open in the late evenings ... There's quite a bit to do in Scheveningen beach during the day even when it's not summer. You can go for a nice walk along the beach (but bring warm windbreakers) to the harbour (perhaps 30 min there and back). You can see outdoor art (sculptures) on the way and a lighthouse. There's also the Sea Life Aquarium (~11 euros for adults), the pier, shopping, and restaurants all near the Kurhaus. The beach of Scheveningen is 3 km long and has an impressive pier that is being being renovated, near the Kurhaus. Just above the beach is a broad promenade that offers small shops and catering establishments. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ During April thru September, there are about 50 beach pavilions ...... If you are a beach person, this is "the" place to go when you in the Netherlands. We had a great time while there, but we must also warn you that all summer, June thru the end of August, this area is very very crowded, as it draws beach goers from neighboring Belgium and Germany, especially on weekends. It was alot of fun walking the beach, people watching, and walking out on the pier ...... Leave a Comment

To help you sing along by dln6874 If you like Piano bars, this is the place to be. I went with some coworkers on a Thursday night and the place was pretty hopping. 2 or 3 piano players/singers who are actually pretty decent. They played classic sing along songs from the U.S. and around the world. You'll no doubt recognize much of the songs. We even danced around quite a bit in the place. Leave a Comment

scheveningen-harbour by RoyJava A Hooray for Scheveningen Harbour, too! Scheveningen celebrated its 100st birthday (since November 26, 1904). Scheveningen (the north-west part of The Hague) was proud, The Hague was proud ... with all kind of events. Visiting Scheveningen Harbour is more than pleasant. Go to Heaven 2 and see the Marina and its yachts, walk around and see the Museum Ship, located on the war-ship A-856, an ex-mine-sweeper built in 1952 (at right on the pic). As well in summer- as in winter-time people love to visit this spot, also for a delicious sea-food snack you can get around. Try to get in touch with an original "Scheveninger", the locals who are very proud of their fishing-village. They love to tell about their legends ... kijkduin-bassin by RoyJava If you like to "touch" the vaulting of heaven and experience heaven as effecting light, you could visit Kijkduin, close to the beach and next to The Hague. In the dunes area the American artist James Turrell created a spot where you can watch the sky. At one of the tops of a dune he created a bassin where you can lay on a bench to see how the sky changes into a dome-shaped vault. One you could touch ... "The mere idea that an artist thought he could bring the heavens down to earth by moving some soil around. With James Turell everything in fact comes down to the observation of light and space". James Turrell (1943, Los Angeles), trained as military pilote, performed some spying-flights above China and the Sovjet during the 60' high in the sky. He got interested into the world of space and light and, became an international top artist. Next article is in Dutch, sorry ... >>> Vault Of Heaven Leave a Comment
