From Amsterdam ride a bus going to The Hague. The public transportation in Netherlands uses 'Nationale Strippenkaart'. Strippenkaarts (Strip Cards) are valid on all buses, trams and metro lines in the city and offer the most economical option for visitors. Strippenkaarts are sold at all rail stations, newspaper shops, post offices and all Albert Hein grocery stores. Tickets containing 2 and 3 strips are available from the driver, but it is much cheaper to buy a 15- or 45-strip card before you board a bus or tram. The 'Strippenkaart' is on sale at the The Hague and Scheveningen Tourist Information Offices, all post offices, most tobacconists and bookshops and at reception desks in a large number of hotels in The Hague. The 'Strippenkaart' is valid throughout the Netherlands, and includes travelling on regional busses and local trains. Remember to ask information at the local HTM shop which located just opposites Bijenkorf shopping centre.
There you can find or ask informations about how to travel with local bus and tram, as the strippen card that you bought is valid for both usage.
Do not forget that before you step into the Ranstad Rail tram, you have to stamp your strippen card first, as in this particular new tram, there is not any stamping machine available onboard. Currently there are 2 lines that use this new tram, Randstad Rail 3 and 4.
Where else, the old trams have onboard strippen card stamping machines available.
If you are a student or a pensioner, you can enjoy a special rates for the strippen card.
Bus and tram time-tables are available for free at the self help counter.

The easiest way to explore the city of The hague and the surrounding areas is by tram. The tram takes you everywhere, to Scheveningen, Delft and of course the most important attractions of The Hague.

In The Hague there are over 30 bus and tramlines for your travel needs. Buy a "nationale strippenkaart" at a train station, tourist- and post-office, tobacco shop, or bookshop.
The "strippenkaart" gives you access to ALL Dutch buses and tramlines and costs 6.40 EURO for 15 "strips" (45 strippenkaart = 18.90 EURO). For students, people over 65 years old and children there is a reduced rate; 15 strippenkaart = 4.20 EURO.
Also possible to buy a strippenkaart in the bus/tramline (HTM): 2 strippenkaart -> 1.60 EURO, 3 strippenkaart -> 2.40 EURO
(on this strippenkaart children of 4 - 11 years and older people with 65-card can travel together at just one strippenkaart - prices with reserve)
When travelling with your strippenkaart, ask some info inside with the conductor (about the transport zones which cost one strip).
Like one zone travel in the city costs 2 strips, and two zones cost 3 strips etc.
It is possible to buy a "group return" for one day, get some info at HTM. Here you may get any information about the way you wanna go ... also about some night services at Friday and Saturday (all specified on the back of the card).
Be warned, taxis are expensive in the Netherlands. Just getting in a taxi already costs about 4.00 Euro (basic rate) plus each km travelled!
Taxis can be hailed in the street, or ordered by phone:
*ATC Taxi, 070 3178877
*HCT City Tax, 070 3830830
*HTMC, tel. 070 3907722

Getting around the Hague was very easy, the trams were very easy to use. We stopped off at the Visitor's Station and they gave sold us tickets to use and explain the usage. It interesting that its based on trust that you stamp the correct number of stamps.

Public transportation services in The Hague are, like everywhere else in the Netherlands, outstanding. Approximately 30 bus and tramlines can transport you in and around The Hague as well as to Delft, Wassenaar, Voorburg, Rijkswijk and Wateringen. The "Haagse Tram Maatschapppij" or HTM, as it is known by the locals, is the major public transportation service for the city. Visit HTM's web-site and click over to view the English pages for more information. Be sure to purchase a 15 or 45 strip national "Strippenkaart" or "strip-card" for fare reductions in The Hague and thoroughout the country. Day passes for unlimited travel throughout the city can be purchased for Euro 5.70.
