Krabbenplas" Vlaardingen by mafootje
Next to the Highway
The Krabbeplas is located right next to the highway between Vlaardingen and Maassluis. There are many recreational possibilities in this area some depending on the season.
It's possible to swim , surf, take a walk through the area or bike around.
Facilities and Posibilities
It has an restaurant and some public restrooms.
If you like to take a walk it's has many possibilities, you can take a short walk around the water which will take about 30 or 45 minutes, but you can also stretch it out by going into the further in the park.
When your going to bike here it's better to see it as a part of a longer trip from here you can go into the "Broekpolder' or go through Maassluis and back through the Shore Woods "Lickebaert" which is located next to the "Nieuwe Waterweg".

In the middle ages the use of swords was more or less useless because of the armour men used then. The use of a heavy broadsword was the one thing that still was used against the body armour. Power was more important as skill then.
When the firearms where invented the swordplay regained his prominence in the 15th century. The swords where still quite heavy.
Nowadays fencing swords a very light, and are used in the sport of fencing.
At Fencing Club "the Trefpunt" you can learn the skills. They also give fencing clinics to small groups, it might be a nice idea for the next company outing. We did it with our company and we had a lot of fun that night.
When you take a fencing clinic all material is provided, swords, protective mask and vest but also a glove.. The only thing you need to take are some sporting shoes and easy sporting clothing... On this picture you see me fishing on the Rotterdamseweg as it was some years ago. The homes you see in the background have been torn down. The water i am fishing in has been replaced by asfalt. There are new houses now with water in front of them.
But they aren't exactly emergency homes as the ones on the picture are these houses where build after the war to create a place to stay for the people which houses had been destroyed....
I gues i must have been 11 on this picture which makes the year 1980...but i am not sure.

 The training range
"Schinkelshoek" in Vlaardingen by mafootje
The other one is the Free Golf course, which is located in Vlaardingen west. This golf course is called Schinkelshoek, golf over here is played on a smaller course and with lighter balls than you would on a normal golf course.
On the terrain you can train yourself in hitting the balls. We started or company outing over here, a very brief introduction was given in how to hold the stick and where to hit the balls and then we all got to take a spot and try to get the balls in a large net.
After some hitting we got some more pointers and it seemed to help because the balls got further this time.
The we moved to a smaller midgetgolf like area and got to practice putting the balls, even in a small competition.
After this back to the "shooting' range to empty the bucket of balls.
Well we didn't need anything they provided us with clubs and a bucket of balls, enough to play for about an hour. To enter the golf course it self you need to follow a course and offcourse succeed in that before your allowed to play real golf..
But believe me hitting those small balls is a good way to relieve some tension ;-)
