Het Hollands dropwinkeltje: Drop! / Licorice!

by nighthawk

For those far away from the Dutch soil and in craving need for drop/licorice....here s the online shop :)Perhaps it s even satisfying to look at the pics ....keep a hanky at hand in case you might drool :-).The pic I have taken from their site. Will replace it by my own soon. I haven t looked carefully, but I do think it s a bit more expensive compared to what I pay in our shops.

Any shop in town: Sinterklaas Shopping

by carolineraat

On the 5th of December, we celebrate the birthday of Sint Nicolaas or Sinterklaas. He is the person that gave Santa Claus his name and character, brought overseas by dutch colonists.Sinterklaas is the best feast of the year, specially for children. They get toys and lots of special delicacies. For instance: PEPERNOTEN (a bit like ginger bread lumps) or CHOCOLATE LETTERS. The adults drink BISHOP´S WINE (warm wine with cinamon). Try for yourself!

Tip Photo
Fish stall: Fish stall

by ATLC

This is actually a permanent stall. You will find them all over The Netherlands. Smoked eel, young herring, "lekkerbekje" (fried cod, much like what you get with fish 'n chips but TASTIER!), and any other fish

Tip Photo
For instance, Intratuin: Visit a dutch garden centre

by carolineraat

All foreign tourists notice that the dutch love their gardens, no matter how small. They are all decorated differently. In a garden centre, you can see all the items that are displayed in dutch gardens, and buy them if you like! Bulbs for your garden, or garden decorations. The prices for flowers and horticultural items are certainly lower than in other countries.

Tip Photo
hema: Visit the HEMA

by carolineraat

The HEMA is a dutch chain of department stores with shops in all the cities. It only sells its own products that are widely known for their special modern design, good quality and low price. Every dutch person buys here, from pastry to curtains Jip en Janneke children´s stuff, drop, pottery...

Tip Photo
Pastry stand: Gebakkraam

by ATLC

You'll often find these stands on fancy fairs, markets and during the festive season in December. They sell delicious deep fried pastry like Oliebollen, Appelflappen, Berliner Bollen and other variations.

Tip Photo
Bijenkorf, HEMA, V&D...: Department stores

by ATLC

Dutch department stores are nice places to browse. Bijenkorf is definitely the most stylish HEMA is cheap, convenient and they have a lot of fun and good products uniquely their own. The HEMA sausage is often considered the best "gerookte worst" (smoked sausage) to go with Dutch "stamppot" (mash).Vroom & Dreessmann is something in between.HEMA and V&D you will find in most larger cities. Bijenkorf only in the largest cities like Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Eindhoven... Well, it's a departmentstore. So....anything

Royal Mint: Buy Dutch coins (online)

by ATLC

In addition to my Dutch Money travelogue:On the website below you can buy Dutch Euro coins as well as guilder coins, special editions, other products, some stamps and some foreign special mints. I like the Guilder and Euro wrist watch. I recently ordered the Commemorative VOC coin set. Prices are reasonable but you could spend quite a bit of money here.

Tip Photo
McArthur Glen Designer Outlet: Outlet Shopping in Roermond

by sabsi

A big outlet centre with about 50 different shops selling all kinds of stuff - designer fashion, sports clothes, kitchen equipment or shoes - all 30-50% off the normal price. Whatever you need - no matter whether you look for Dolce & Gabbana or Nike ... it's there! 30-50% less than in a normal shop
