Pieterpad, long distance walk

This is a north-south (or vice-versa) walking route in the eastern part of The Netherlands, nearly 500 kms long.Long distance walking is a very old tradition in Europe. But in our small country, this is about the longest route you can make (unless you walk in circles, of course!).Many of such routes are to do with very old commercial roads, or pelgrimages and such. These routes would exist for centuries.By lack of such a route in The Netherlands, there were 2 Dutch ladies who simply made one up! They walked and described the route between 1975-1981. So there will be a 30 year anniversary in 2011!The name Pieterpad is derived simply from the northern-most destination Pieterburen and the southern-most destination Pietersberg near Maastricht. Hence: Pieterpad.
