Harlingen is a lively seaside town and harbour which is a favourite port for many recreative sailors.The town itself is old and lovely to walk around in. Shopping is good too. It markets itself very well to tourists but it's not tourist-ridden. Leeuwarden has a combination of modern, commercially active town and old grandeur. I especially like the Porcelain museum and the Prinsentuin where you can listen to open air pop or blues concerts.The city center could use some more maintenance though. Maastricht is in the southeast of the Netherlands, sandwiched in between Belgium and Germany. Located on river Maas, it is the oldest city in the Netherlands, founded by the Romans in 20 AD under the name Mosa Trajectum. Today it has a population of about 100,000.
I'm afraid there's not much on my Apeldoorn page. It is a good base to explore the National Park Hoge Veluwe. Nearby Beekbergen boasts a monkey park (Apenheul) and you can visit the royal castle Het Loo.
Nice large town in the east of The Netherlands. Played an important role in the Second World War. Holds many childhood memories as I went to high school there. Alas, my Arnhem page is not up to my own expectations !
Delightful city with old parts but also the ultramodern Groninger museum. Many students live here. On the way from Amsterdam you will pass through man made land called province Flevoland.--See my Groningen page.--
Elegant old city, great restaurants and night life, sighseeing: fortifications, grottoes and wonderful shopping.Maastricht is in the "deep" south of The Netherlands.In June 2003 I left the hotel one Sunday morning very early and took a walk. Rural village in the east of The Netherlands. It has a very old double watermill which is quite unique. And there are quite a few very good art painters that live here. It also offers cycling, golfing, horseriding and walking.I stayed the night in the farm on this photo in May 2003. Just across from the watermill. Isn't it lovely?Do see my Haaksbergen page!
