This picture shows the centraal station in Amsterdam by night. It was built on a man-made island in the former harbor of Amsterdam. This is a perfect departure point for a visit to the Netherlands, for it is in the very heart of vibrating Amsterdam. The motorway network in the Netherlands is very dense, but the speed is strictly controlledm so take care, especially if you have been driving in Germany before. Otherwise, although there are not high speed trains, the public transport is excellent. Finally, the Low Countries are perfect to be discovered by bike: even if you are not very fit, the country is so flat that you will really enjoy it. The infrastructure for cycling is excellent.

Amsterdam Central Station...

by behappy

Amsterdam Central Station (seen here from across a street/canal located in front of the station) is a very busy train station literally minutes from Schipol Airport. The harbor of Amsterdam is at the back of the station, and there are also canals on the sides. This is where you can get to anywhere in Netherlands and other major European cities by train.

Amsterdam Schiphol, Airport...

by behappy

Amsterdam Schiphol, Airport City - its offbeat attractions are a casino, a sauna and massage service. Among Schiphol's advantages is that it is all housed under one roof, with none of the terminal hopping that causes minor panic in transfer passengers or sometimes confuses unwary first time users.

by Russophile

Flying into Schipol is a breeze as the Amsterdam airport is a major hub for KLM/NWA. It is very easy to take a break in Amsterdam even if you have just a short stop of a few hours. If you are stuck at the airport for longer periods of time Schipol has lots of shopping, a casino but very poor, rock-hard seating with fixed armrests making it hard to sit down comfortably to relax or nap. I have never tried the 'place of worship' or the 'rent-a-bed' facilities, but I have found one area where you can actually relax, it is close to gate B8 and has really nice chaise-lounges where you can take a nap or just relax, great if you stay at the airport overnight!

by Dogbloke

Eazyjet from Luton. Midweek is cheap. Loads of flights. Train from Schipol Airport. Station below the concourse to Centraal station. Then trams. Buy carnet of tram tickets from tourist office. Stamp two folds on the tram machine for each inner city journey. few conductors on most routes. Try circle tram no 25. It will give you a cheap tour of the whole city.

There are alot of low cost airlines that Fly to Amsterdam. Try looking at www.easyjet.comTravelling around the Netherlands is very easy. There is brilliant Public Transport so why not make use of it. The trains run on time and are quick with regular conections to major towns and cities. Use the trams around town as they are cheap or, even better, get a bike. The Dutch will love you for it!

Getting there from Uzbekistan...

by Dinar

Getting there from Uzbekistan was not an issue at all. With Uzbek Airlines I got there pretty fast and cheap.RT ticket cost me 200 bucks!!! with 20 % discount. The best way to get around is train. Practically all destinations are available within 2 hours of ride. So I first arrive to Schiphol airport and took a train to Breda. From there by bus got to Katjeskelder. But most convinient way to get around was the car that you see on the picture.

by collap

Get ther by train or plane. If coming from inside Europe try flying Easyjet or Buzz.Best way - by train, they're punctual and relatively inexpensive. If unsure about connections, when buying your ticket ask for a 'Reisschema' which will tell you where you need to change, when, which platform etc...The roads around the main cities are always congested.
