Watch the bicycles!!!

by Nathalie_B

If in every other country you have to watch the cars while crossing a road, here you have to watch for bicycles as well. As I already mentioned, Dutch are extremely nice people, but when they ride their bikes they simply don't see you. I haven't been living in the Netherlands for a long time, but already have seen a lot of accidents. So, watch out!!!Especially make sure that you're not walking on a bicycle path. Not only it is dangerous but also truly annoying for those who ride their bikes

Junkies & the drugs

by erik0240

"Softdrugs" (marijuana, mushrooms etc) is pretty much legal in the Netherlands. I say "pretty much", because it really isn´t legal, but the government has chosen to look the other way when it comes to it (excactly as in Christiania - Copenhagen). Besides of the Netherlands drug-Mecca - Amsterdams "The Redlight District" - there is also a lot of drugs in the more rural parts of the Netherlands. Every town has its own drug-supplying coffeeshop. Now I wont be a preacher and tell you pros & cons about drugs, and especially not about the drugs which they are selling in the Netherlands (because the users of those drugs probably wont bother you in any way; read my guide about Amsterdam), but the drug-policy in the Netherlands has created alot of rather nasty and worn-down heavy junkies which you can easily see around the country and in the cities. I really can´t imagine that any city is worse...

Ice and Snow

by pepples46

when you travelling in the Winter, make sure of warm clothes....it can be frrrrrrreeeezing it's more a dampish cold and the wee canals can freeze over, and people take to their favorite past time..Icescating, but our Weatherpattern have definitly changed in the last 10-15years, Greenhouse effect takes place eveywhere

Biking on an icey road

by Nathalie_B

It rarely snows here, but even if it does you won't have a chance to see the Netherlands dressed in white for a long time. If you happen to ride a bike when it snows, or when the snow still stays on the streets you must be very carefull. Remember that falling on the snowy, icey ground is not fun at all. Often, when there's no bicycle path you'll find yourself riding on the road and this is a real danger. Cars that drive behind you may not stop as fast.....Best thing to do is to leave your bike at home and wait till the snow melts (it won't take long). Instead you can always either walk or take a bus, it is much safer.

Mussels

by sammie

They are very very rare, but if you see one, don't move!! This giant mussel is trained to see and hear every movement and will strike without warning. Only a few have survived his attact. Oke, that was a joke. This silent mussel is found next to the N59, at Bruinisse.

The parking meters!

by sim1

The parking meters! They are everywhere in the centre of town! So annoying, but it is like any other city in The Netherlands, parking meters everywhere. So don't forget to always have some change with you when you come here by car. So when you park your car always check if there is a parking meter around (most likely there is). Take a good look at the parking regulations, for example the maximum parking time, only licensed parking, which days and/or hours you need to pay for your parking, etc. Make sure that the time of your stay does not exceed the parking time you have paid for. Otherwise, you might end up with a severe fine, a wheel clamp or, even worse, find your car has been towed away!

Some words about the sex museum

by dr.firas

Some people were not satisfied at all from their visit to the sex museum, I heared some English tourists saying: Oh it is just for sick people, well you can think whatever you want, but I guess it worth a visit just to have an idea, you could discover some good ideas, and vice versa!

Tip Photo
Weather

by dr.firas

There are days when the sun shines generously in Holland, but if you are willing to go in the winter, you must be ready for a cloudy weather, to make ideal pictures is better in a summer beautiful day, but unfortunately we can't have always the right occasion, when we want and when we can is a different thing!

Tip Photo
No way to reach it!

by dr.firas

The most wonderful and famous: *Oostindeivaarder* which is a giant ship is really impossible to reach without entering the museum, so if you wanna go there you should absolutley enter the museum first!

Tip Photo
Sex Shops

by dr.firas

Sex shops are a typical fun shops in Amsterdam, I've got the impression Amsterdam was the sex capital LOLif you enter you should warn the owner you are just getting in to watch, it is better, even if he will answer: Yes, and maybe you could find something! LOL
