The Hofbrauhaus, Munich: Loud and Luscious

by Maryimelda Updated Nov 22, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Hofbrauhaus stands on it reputation as one of the most sought after beer hall destinations in Europe. Here you get it all. Beer by the barrel, good food at resonable prices, constant music usually by an Oom Pah Pah Band and bonhomie that can't be beaten. Many say, and I agree, that the secret for the huge popularity both with locals and tourists in Munich, of the Hofbrauhaus is that it does provide all of these attractions and all in the best most inviting way possible.

This place is steeped in history. The first Hofbrauhaus was built in 1589 at a different location and served only brown beer. The Hofbrauhaus we see today was built in 1607 and served white beer. I beleive that the two establishments were in operation for some time before the second one became the only one. There have been scores of owners in the 400 year history of the current beer hall.

    Dress Code: Smart casual.

    Sunsets of Europe
    Sundbyholm
    Sweden
A sunset that is dear to my heart, and a sunset I can see often. It is taken during my evening walk from my house towards Sundbyholm Castle with the view over Lake Mälaren. This picture was taken in September 2003. It’s now October when I type this and the sunsets keep coming earlier and earlier, and the shadows grow longer day by day. A clear sign that winter is rapidly on its way. But the sunset keeps being beautiful every day, no matter what time of the year.

Moulin Rouge, Paris: Nightlife at its most famous

by Maryimelda Updated Mar 9, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I've never had the money or the inclination to see the show at the Moulin Rouge, but I do think that it is a must when visiting Paris, to go there at night and see it all lit up so beautifully. Just take the metro to any of the stops along the Blvd de Clichy and walk west till you see it. It really isn't hard to find.

Now if you decide you want to go in and see the show, be prepared to come out with a far lighter wallet than you went in with. Be careful what you order because some people I know have really been caught and ended up with bills well in excess of 500 Euro for two people. Just be sure you know the price of that bottle of champers before you order it!

There is nothing better than the Eiffel tower at night in paris, even if the city of lights is not presenting the tower alone to gain the title of city of light!
there are special days when the tower is lighted in an incridble way, if you want to know how you should be there the first minutes of his lighting and you will see this fabulous show!

    Wow.... what a sunset!

    Sunsets of Europe
    Lago di Bolsena
    Italy
In these "nightlife tips" I want to put a few of my favourite sunset pictures. I really love watching the sunset, but when I lived in The Netherlands, I didn't have the time or the opportunity to enjoy it so much. So when I travel I always take the time to see the sunset. Just sit down and relax and see the sun go down. See the sky change in the most amazing colours until the sun disappears behind the horizon and the dusk begins. Now I am much more fortunate in Sweden, I live on a perfect spot to watch the sunset, as you can see in some of the next few pictures.

    Sunsets of Europe
    Paestum
    Italy
Beautiful Italy and beautiful sunsets. I have seen so many beautiful sunsets in this country; that alone would be enough reason to visit Italy. But Italy has much more to offer than sunsets alone.

This picture was taken on the beach close to Paestum. It had been a beautiful day already, I had been to the magnificent tempels at Paestum (see my Italy page), and now this sunset... just gorgeous. The day had been perfect already, but this sunset was like the icing on the cake.

Another wonderful sunset at my home in Sundbyholm. I live at Lake Mälaren and this is the most wonderful spot to go see the sun go down. The reflection in the water, the amazing orange colours of the sun, it is amazing. When I notice that we are going to have another wonderful sunset I always try to walk to the lake and try to capture the moment with my camera.

    Färnebofjärden, Sweden

    by sim1 Updated Feb 10, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Sunsets of Europe
    Färnebofjärden National Park
    Sweden

Färnebofjärden is a National Park that protects a stretch of the Lower Dalälven River running from the city of Avesta to the Bothnian Sea. Water is the main feature of this park and water is what you will see here. Flooded areas, wetlands, streams and lakes, and of course wildlife, birds, forests and flowers. But mainly water.......... a beautiful sight to see, but it makes the area rather hard to access.

I arrived late afternoon at the park, very early in the season, with no people around yet. We were allowed to put up our little tent on the beach (an advantage of travelling off season), from where we had the most beautiful views over the waters of the Dalälven and Färnebofjärden National Park. The sun was going down, turning the sky into a work of art, but there was still enough light and time for a short walk along the shores. While walking on the beach we could see a deer quickly making its way over one of the wetlands, we heard the cry of a bird in the distance and the sound of a woodpecker in the tree above. The water was washing gently up the shore, the glittering of the sun in the water, a soft breeze, and the wonderful sound of 'silence'. This is how I remember Färnebofjärden, and how I liked it at its best.
