Vollen bakeri by Saagar This is a wonderful local bakery that produces their own stuff , not some kind of factory outlet. They are linked to Kafe Oscar (see my tip). They produce a wide selection of fairly traditional cakes and breads, and do things by order, too. They are consistently using ecologically certified raw materials.
Youghurt bread and the "Vollen Bread". And terrifyingly, a lot of different cakes.... For Christmas I will order their "kransekake", a towering dry almondpaste cake (not marzipan) that is absolutely delicious.... They apparently have success with making these to order. Open: Mon-Sat 9-17, Sun 10-17 during regular working hours. One of at least hree bakeries downtown, this one has a stronger emphasis on bread baking rather than "cakery" as the other "conditories" do. However, they have plenty of cakes, too. They are a subsidiary of Vollen bakeri. Open Mon-Fri 09-17, Sat 09-16.
Various types of brown, wholegrain breads. They have a sit-down cafe as well, where you can devour some delicacies before heading home with your wholesome bread... Throwing a party or a nice picnic? Don't want to cook yourself, yet it should be top notch home style food? Annes catering will probably do the job according to your wishes. Located at Rortunet at Slemmestad, southern Asker, they will deliver in the decent distance vicinity. Check out by phone or internet/e-mail, if in doubt. Specialty is any-scale smørgåsbord (open-faced sandwiches), cold cuts, full dinners and canapees. They'll do and size parties and up to large business dinners.
I'd probably go for a smørgåsbord and cold cuts with an emphasis on sea food. Newly opened, didn't go there yet, adjacent to the new "House of Culture" of Asker. Latin inspired kitchen, but remains eclectic. Afternoon blues on Saturdays. Free internettzone. Concerts organised by Asker Blues Club. Gotta be good!!!! Mon-Thu 11-24 Fri-Sat 11-02 Sun 12-23.
The emphasis is on light and delightful. Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalAddress: Asker KulturhusDirections: Downtown AskerWebsite: www.baracoa.no

Big Horn Steak House is a chain restaurant that just opened a branch in Asker, too. The specialty is beef steaks, but they do have lots of variations of that theme, as well as some game meat and good salads. You write your own order where you indicate how you want your steak done. Quite an informal place, and the prices aren't over the top. Slightly western decor inside. Opening hours: Mon-Wed 16-22, Thu-Sat 16-23, Sun 15-22

Café Opus is made for tired shoppers who are not very adventurous in their choice of food - that means the upper age segment of shoppers. That also means you can have some generally good, average home style seasonal menu choices. Lunch and dinner emphasis, with a strong coffee-with-cake option.

Chinatown - a very original name.... Serves up Chinese lunches and dinners. Take-home service, drive-out service. Indoor and outdoor seating. Fully licenced.
Chinese food in Norway is not like Chinese food in China. But you cannot go much wrong with seafood and shredded meat wok dishes, sweet'n souts and chopsueys. Nothing extraordiary here, but worth it if your craving goes this way. Dolly Dimple's is part of a large internatinal chain and thus not very exciting, and rather predictable. But they do good quick dinners and very good pizza for the Askerianians ("askerbøringene"). They have a sit-down option, take home-option or they-bring-option.
Got to be pizza. Leave a Comment Theme: DinerPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: TrekantenPhone: 04440

Not a restaurant, but a pan-Asian grocery located in Sandvika. If you live in Asker or visit Asker for prolonged holidays (or a picnic in one of the nice coves here), you can stop by Sandvika - by car, bus or train - and do your Asian grocieries and other food items and necessities shopping here at EUR ASIA International Food. Open: Mon-Fri 9-19, Sat 9-18, Sun 12-18. Hvalstrand Bad is an old built-up sea bathing place with diving towers, piers and a restaurant in the 30-ies "Funkis" style. I personally do not care too much for the cubicle right-angles-style, but the setting is fine and the restaurant does have atmosphere.
Special menu "3-meter'n" (the "3-meter dive"). Expensive at NOK 395. Try other maritime dishes, too if your wallet fails to meet the obligations of the 3-meter'n or if your intention is to swim, not to sink. Freshly steamed shrimps are always good, seved with fresh bread, lemon and mayonnese. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$41 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Hvalstrand. AskerDirections: Take off from road 165 south when you see the sign Hvalstrand Bad approaching Leangbukta. Parking problems during high season and warm, sunny days. Then use the bus instead of private vehicle.
