Tangen Pizzakro: Pizza while waiting for the Asker islands boat
Saagar profile photo
Saagar 2157 reviews

Down by the harbour in Sandvika some 10 km east of Asker you will find Tangen Pizzakro, open Mon-Thu10-24, Fri-Sat 10-02:30, Sun 12-24.
If you missed your boat out to the islands of Asker/Bærum ("Rigmor," see transportation tip), you can crash here and burn your time coiled around a pizza. Or, when coming back from a sunny day on the islands, or Kalvøya with the kids, drop by here for an easy dinner that makes everyone happy, including the cook.
Outdoor and indoor, take-out.
Some sort of happy hours 16-21, but I did not investigate whether this was valid for drinks too!? Doesn't sound real in this country.

Favorite Dish: By definition, pizza. But which one? I am the pepperoni guy!

EUR ASIA Internasjonal Mat: Missing Asia? Help is on the way

Not a restaurant, but a pan-Asian grocery located in Sandvika. If you live in Asker or visit Asker for prolonged holidays (or a picnic in one of the nice coves here), you can stop by Sandvika - by car, bus or train - and do your Asian grocieries and other food items and necessities shopping here at EUR ASIA International Food.
Open: Mon-Fri 9-19, Sat 9-18, Sun 12-18.

Haveli: Asker's only South Asian
Saagar profile photo
Saagar 2157 reviews
Haveli

Haveli will probably object to being ticked off as Indian restaurant (VT categories...). They proudly advertise themselves as Haveli Pakistani Tandoori Restaurant. With a sizeable Pakistani local population also frequenting Haveli, the food got to be good.
Given that apart from Nagina's over in Sandvika it's also the only South-Asian (diplomacy employed here...) food restaurant in Asker, there is little other choice...
Outdoor serving also.
Open Mon-Sat 15-23, Sun 14-22.

Favorite Dish: Tandooris here are good.

Hvalstrand Bad: Littoral food at Hvalstrand Bad
Saagar profile photo
Saagar 2157 reviews

Hvalstrand Bad is an old built-up sea bathing place with diving towers, piers and a restaurant in the 30-ies "Funkis" style. I personally do not care too much for the cubicle right-angles-style, but the setting is fine and the restaurant does have atmosphere.

Favorite Dish: Special menu "3-meter'n" (the "3-meter dive").
Expensive at NOK 395.
Try other maritime dishes, too if your wallet fails to meet the obligations of the 3-meter'n or if your intention is to swim, not to sink. Freshly steamed shrimps are always good, seved with fresh bread, lemon and mayonnese.

Nagina's Restaurant: Indian food for the soul, too
Saagar profile photo
Saagar 2157 reviews

Strictly speaking not in Asker, it's across the border in Bærum municipality, but the municipalities enjoy extensive cooperation and let me propose to extend this to eateries, too....
Nagina's is located in an obscure place near the river (that turns and twists in Sandvika) so it's a bit hard to find at the first go. If you find it you will come again, though.
Close to the railway station; you can get off the train, go and eat, and then jump on the next train in the best interrail style.

Favorite Dish: Kormas and tandooris are my favourites here - they do them real well. My companions who go for the curries will go for curries again, too.
Good portions and quality for a fair price.

Lunches for NOK 69,-
Dinners from NOK 139
Take-home at 10% off.

LilleTrille Donuts: Smultringer - donuts - for any occasion...
Saagar profile photo
Saagar 2157 reviews

We thought smultringer were ok until travellers returning from the USA told us they were boring and tried adding sugar, chockolate and what not on them. Then they suddenly became donuts. Do-Nuts sounds like "toilet-nuts" in the Norwegian. Visually, too, you know whith the hole in the centre?
No, don't mess with our smultringer!
Despite my harangue, LilleTrille goes all the way in providing this unfamilar stuff.

Favorite Dish: I'll stick to smultringer!
They'd be stripped-down donuts, just bare bones so to speak.
But they are good here, too.
They bake all day, so you will get them fresh and hot if you like.
Price: 28 pcs for NOK 175.
For 30 or more, the price is NOK 6 per piece.
