During all weekends leading up to Christmas, the local buses in Asker and Baerum municipalities are discounted to NOK 10 per adult and NOK 5 per child one way to/from Sandvika (main shopping area) in an effort to limit private car driving and ease road transportation.

In the mornings and afternoons on workdays there are a few scheduled boat departures from Oslo's Aker Brygge pier to Slemmestad and Vollen in Asker and return.
From Aker Brygge/Oslo: 06:45, 07:50, 15:10, 16:20, 17:30.
From Vollen: 06:15, 07:20, 08:25, 15:35, 16:45
These catamaran rides are really fast and at 25 minutes they are faster than all other transport options to Asker (south). They are ideal if you want to go fishing for sea trout, walk the coastal trail, visit antique shops that seem to proliferate here, or during summers, find a beach and go picniking and bathing.
