It seems to be a traditional restaurant and the best in the city. I have been there once and we have to choose from a lot of well done dishes. I have tried something with lamb which was delicious. One of my colegues was eating seal and we have all tried the seaguls eggs garnished with fish eggs.

The restaurant is not really a restaurant and to call it pub is a little bit too much :)
If you enjoy the adrenalin and you do not have the courage enough to go to Banjer'n Pub... well Kaikanteen can be a good choice.
Favorite Dish: A fast beer... standing... near the door and... do not look to the people drinking around. They can become interested about your person and for sure you are not yet ready for this :)

Address: Near the center of the city
The restaurant is situated on the top of the hill, just above the center of Hammerfest. The view over the city and port is beautiful and the place is quiet and pure.
If you want to have an ideea about how Hammerfest is looking like, you have to go on the plateau near Turistua and for sure you will find it out.
The restaurant was opened in 1991 according with the inscription above the door. It seems to be clean and with that view actually I didn't care about the food :)

I haven't been so happy with the menu in the big hut but the restaurant is OK. I would rather prefere the small traditional hut and the special drinks they served there.
The hostess (Mikkel's wife Solveig... and his daugther) were very kind and they were telling us nice stories about the local traditions and the local history. Solveig was singing also some traditional sami songs... completely different then we use to listen but they have something common with the romanian's sheperd's "doina".
I will always be happy to go back there.
The red wine (imported of course from... Portugal :-) ) is very good and you shall believe me because I have tasted a lot:)

Turistua is located on the top of Mount Salen and has a fantastic view of Hammerfest. The restaurant is open during summer (1. June - 15. Aug). In winter time it is open on request.
Favorite Dish: Lunch and dinner buffet. I have only been here for privat dinner and don't know the "Summer" meny.

Mikkelgammen is traditional Sami turf huts (one small and one large) on Salen, just 5 minutes drive from Hammerfest. Mikkel and his wife Solveig serve traditional Sami food and information about the Sami culture. They serve light meals, dinner or entire evenings with activities.
Opening hours on request.
Favorite Dish: They serve traditional Sami food. All the diskes I have tryed have been really good, but my favorite is the Bidos, a stew of reindeer meet and vegetables.

Our coastal steamer had an early morning call at Hammerfest, the northernmost incorporated town. We did not disembark, but were able to get some very nice photos.
