The Sami Parliament is a very nice building located in a forest and all made by wood. It was opened in 1989, by King Olav V, the first Samiparliamentpresident was Ole Henrik Magga, from Kautokeino. He was the president for more than eight years. Is possible to visit the parlament during the summer season from 8:30 to 14:30. In the same building there is a wonderful library with internet connection.
The chorch of Karasjok was built in 1807 and it is the oldest lutheran church in Finnmark, and the only building to survive the war damage. The church is today too small, so a big, wooden church, inspired by Sami architecture, has been built on the other side of the Karasjohka River.
The Sami Museum, located at the entrance of the town give you a very good idea about the Sami people and culture. In the open air there is a very good reproduction of a Sami village. Very good.
