This Sami tent was the location for our evening of dinner and entertainment. There was a large fire in the center with benches around the entire perimeter. Reindeer was the main course, cooked on the fire and passed around to all.
It was dark and dusky inside the huge tent. The entire evening was unlike anything I had ever experienced.

Meeting this Sami family was quite an experience. The grandparents' pride in their grand daughter was evident. The little girl was learning the songs of her ancestors and singing them with gusto! We enjoyed the performance.

I guess it's all in your outlook. We paid a visit to a Sami village, eating a meal of reindeer and enjoying an evening of Sami entertainment.
A Sami couple and their grand daughter welcomed us into their tent and proceed to both entertain and serve the meal. They sang their folk songs with enthusiasm. The reindeer dinner was an experience. My husband said it was actually not bad. I'd rather not eat meat especially after meeting it!

Our coastal steamer arrived in Kirkenes at 10AM. We were required to vacate our cabin by 9:30. We were asked to leave the ship immediately upon arrival at port. The line by Apu from "The Simpsons"...
This tiny church is near Kirkenes. It is made of wood painted red and has downspouts that look like serpents! Heaters line the rows of seats.
Kirkenes is small town by the far up the north east of Norway. It is unique place to visit and once when you know how it is here you will not refer anymore to Oslo or Stockholm as Nordic cities :)
