Nordkapp Things to Do

  • Nordic Lights / Aurora Borealis at...

The Nordic Lights / Aurora Borealis at Nordkappthat's a very special natural phenomenon that you can watch mainly in wintertime and you need to have a perfect combination of various situations:1) the sky has to be without clouds2) the sky needs to be dark, so you are able to see the reflections 3) you need certain activities of the sun, that are...

  • meet the birds

An artificial bird-rockthat is another attraction for the tourists inside the Nordkapp-Hallen, just in case that the weather is not good enough to enjoy this very special place at the edge of Europe. You will hardly ever be able to get as close to a birdrock in reality without beeing attacked by the birds, so this is a good chance for most tourists...

  • King Oscar II on the way to the Nordkapp

In 1873 the king of Sweden and Norway, Oscar II travelled to the Nordkapp and inside of the Northkapp-Hallen you will see some scenes of this travel shown by small puppets of the king and other noble travellers, while hiking through the landscape to the Nordkapp. There was no street and not even a good path to this very end of the european...

Nordkapp Restaurants

  • lots of places, mostly empty

The selfservice-restaurant of nordkapphallen offers a great view but it is also quite expensive to eat there and obviously most people are in a hurry and would spend their precious time there out in the landscape or in one of the museums etc. instead of going to this restaurant. Take a look at my last photo: a small piece of cake in the...

Nordkapp Nightlife

  • Nightlife with sunshine....

Nightlife at Northcape is a great experience. The later it gets, the more people arrive. Most of them come with busses from Honnigsvåg, where the cruiseships are in the harbour. And why are all these people coming to this place? They come to see the sun not going under the horizon!! For us that was at about 1.30am. A lot of people were making a...

Does it need to be discribed? Sun in the middle of the night is special enough, but as the sun is so low above the horizon the colors are just fantastic! See the picture (and more in the t-logue) and i think you will know what i mean!. Mosquito proof clothes...

Nordkapp Transportation

  • Travelling to Nordkapp midwinter

Hi I think the best way, if not the only way, is by travelling on the Hirtigruten coastal voyager boat. I did it in Feb a few years ago and got on at Harstad and they stop long enough on their northward route to make excursions available to Nordkapp - they have to have a snow plough organised to go ahead for their bus for the road from the port -...

  • How to get to Nordkapp from Honningsvag

In case that you arrive in Honningsvag by Hurtigruten or any other ship I can only highly recommend to book the tours of your cruiseship, although those are the most expensive tours that you can think of. You simply will not have enough time there to organize anything there in port on your own, taxis are also not a good solution, because they also...

  • Hurtigruten-ships will take you to...

Take a Hurtigruten-ship from Bergen or from Kirkenes and in both cruises, northbound and southbound you will get to Honnigsvag, from where the bustours to the Nordkapp will start. Hurtigruten is the name of the famous post-ships cruising every day of the year along the norwegian coast on a fixed schedule between Bergen and Kirkenes. The Hurtigruten...

Nordkapp Shopping

  • furs & other souvenirs

This shop will be along the road to the Northcape and it is worth a short stop-over like we did in our buses organized by Hurtigruten. You can also take a look inside the tents of the Sami and see one of their rendeers. You get here more or less the same kind of souvenir-things as in the rest of Norway, but maybe also some handmade Sami-things...

  • Typical souvenir - Troll

In Norway there were various creatures hiding out in the forests . People did not know what these creatures were, but they were generally believed to have supernatural powers and they came to be known as trolls. The trolls would come out of their hiding- places only after sunset and they would disappear before the morning sun arose in the East....

Trolls - you will find them all over Norwayand one of them is waiting for you inside the Nordkapphallen, posing patiently for the tourists photos.Trolls are living out in the woods and they are a lot smaller than the one here in my photos. Sami-tents are quite interestingmost of them are round and they had a stove inside. Nordkapp Warnings and Dangers

North Cape can be cold even in summer: we were there in late June, and with thick fog and only +3 C (37 F), I was very glad to have a good pullover, scarf, gloves... and winter hat.Pack them, just in case... Because of the humidity and the low temperatures, some mates cheap cameras - on low level of batteries - did not work.

The northernmost point in Europe is Knivskjellodden and not North Cape. It's 1500 meters more north than North Cape. You will have to walk 9 km each way to get there. It's an easy trip with only one very steep point. I would say that everyone that can do a 18 km walk, would be able to do this hike. There is a box at Knivskjellodden which contains a...
