What to pack for a winter cruise with Hurtigruten
Although the less expensive cabins are small, you can store empty suitcases etc in a luggage room near the reception area, so you don’t have to worry about the size or number of your bags! But remember that storage in the cabins is limited, so don’t bring more than you think you’ll need. Day-time temperatures in coastal Finnmark in January are usually a few degrees below freezing, and lower still at night of course. You will need a warm top layer to combat the cold, especially if you plan to be out on deck much, as of course the movement of the ship and the open seas mean that the wind chill is considerable. Remember that if the Northern Lights appear, as they did on one evening of our trip, you will want to go out at night!Take shoes with good grips for the shore excursions.
