    Visit The Gallery

    by wise23girl Updated Sep 5, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When you visit Skarsvåg and head towards the fishing boats you will fine The Gallery 'East of the Sun' owned by a talented artist Eva Schmutterer.
Her work is created by recycling magazines and papers and maybe more. In the dark days and nights of winter she creates...just look at the photos of her art work.

She showed us an example of work in progress and you could see the paper pieces on the back of the picture. Unbelievable.

Now her story is, as I remember, she married a man of the region and in the beginning worked very hard to establish the gallery.

So when you are visiting North Cape in the summer...maybe you arrive in Honningsvåg by ship ....do be sure to ask about The Gallery.

Have you read about The Christmas House?

    The Christmas House

    by wise23girl Updated Sep 5, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Not far from Skarsvåg , Norway you will find The Christmas House which should come as no surprise as this is reindeer country....and the reindeers there are grazing on the treeless slopes.

In the Christmas House you can enjoy warm drinks, waffles, and Christmas cake. It is not your usual Christmas cake full of mixed fruit that we are used to but something special made right here in Norway....at the edge of civilization.

There is also an array of gifts for you to take home to delight the family and friends. We bought a gorgeous little frosted glass reindeer.

I have been trying to find the name of the Christmas House town and all I could find was Skarsvåg but we drove out further on our tour.

    Hiking to Kirkeporten

by DanDidriksen Updated Jan 11, 2011

    Kirkeporten means 'Churchgate'.
Walking the 2,5 km from Skarsvåg to Kirkeporten takes 20-25 minutes. It's a nice easy walk for everyone.
In the summer nights shines the midnight sun through the gate of the rock, impressive.

North Cape is a monumental experience and offers a fascinating view from 307 meter above the North Atlantic Ocean, sometimes illuminated by the midnight sun in summer and Aurora Northern light in winter.

There is a small souvenir shop in Skarsvåg where you can hold a king crab in your hands. It's for free and you can take as many pictures as you want.

North Cape is something extraordinary - the climatic conditions, the dramatic cliff itself and the fact that one is located on the utmost point of Europe, enhances the experience.
