Sky Gazing and Day Tripping

by Yarnripper

I love the fact that in the north, you can see the midnight sun and six months later experience the aurora borealis in all its glory. Both experiences are highly recommended. Eating and walking. My favorite thing to do in a new town is find the bakery (the epicenter of any good community), fuel up, and start walking down alleys and around corners. If I'm lucky, I'll get lost, and have to walk my way out of it. Then I find another bakery, and start all over again.

Kristiansand

by gilli

Kristiansand is a relative small town about 300 km south of Oslo. The great family atraction there is the Zoo wich is a little more than just a zoo. It's called "Kristiansand dyrepark" and has a great variety of animals. But it also has an amusement park zone with some very fun activities. There is also a pirate town there where you can take a trip on a "real" pirate ship. There is a water world with some swimming pools where you can spend hot summer days. And so on and on.The highlight of it all is a town which they have built to fit a story written by Thorbj?rn Egner called "Kardemomme by". It is a famous tail in the Scandinavian countries and tels the story of three robers and the townfolks of Kardemomme wich they harass. For childre wich know this story this is direct hit. Three or four times each day the play is performed there in the town. If you are interestet to see the play you...

Lillehammer is an ex-winter olympic town but there is more to him than that. Near by there is a family park called "Hunderfossen" wich offers a varaity of entertainment for young and old, mostly young thou. ( http://www.hunderfossen.no )There is a Roadmuseum there which is serves good for everyone interestet in cars and other vehicles and how they get about.Just outside the town there is a place called "Lilleputthammer" where a part of the town is build in miniature houses. It's a fun thing to see if you are going by.And then of course there are the olympic atractions. I strongly recomend the bobsledride. You can go down the original olympic bobsledtrack on a socalled "hjulbob" during sommertime. It's a bobseld with wheels but you reach a speed of over 100 km/h. The problem is that it's quiet expensive . ( http://www.lillehammer.de/hjulbob.htm )One more thing I noticed when I last was...

A loooooong country

by daarth

To understand the length of Norway (about 1,770 km), you can do the following experiment:You go down to the southern tip of Norway and place a solid pin in it. Then you wander up to the north tip and give it a good kick so it swings all the way down through a 180° arc and the north tip is hanging down from what was the south tip. You will now observe that the north tip (that now is a south tip) will be resting very near Rome in Italy!NB: Children: Do not try this without parental supervision!!

Southern Part of Norway - Mountainious Paradise

by Sunchild

Well, I only know the Southern part of Norway so far. As mentioned before, my family does own a cottage there. This cottage is located in the 'Setesdal' - one of the most beautiful valleys in Norway - so we have been told! And believe me - I am convinced, that's true. Don't miss out the Hardanger Fjord, Geiranger Fjord, Bergen, the 'Preikestolen' not very far from Stavanger and the Lysefjord. The costal line west of Christiansand is absolutely gorgious! Its not easy to tell, what is NOT beautiful! Mountains, woods, grandiose waterfalls, very narrow valleys (like the Neroey Fjord), glaciers, the flora and fauna - all this makes this country an outstanding wonderful peace of world. Someone, who knows both, Canada and Norway, told me, that Norway is a 'small Canada' with different landscapes changing much quicker than in Canada as everything seems so very 'squeezed in' (in the best...

There are many reasons to come to Norway

by daarth

Many tourists that come to Norway go straight for the fjords. The fjords are one of the things that are unique for Norway. Many come also for the nature and mountains, and some come for the sole reason to see the North Cape. Norway is a long country with diverse nature and culture. It is an old kingdom though it has for periods belonged to both Denmark and Sweden. Today it is a modern high-tech society and one of the largest oil producing countries in the world. It is also a seafaring nation with traditions back to the Viking days. The picture above is from the lighthouse at Lindesnes, the southernmost tip of Norway. From here the distance to the North Cape is about the same as the distance to Rome in Italy. Here is an interesting link to Medieval Scandinaviawww.medsca.org The people and the nature that formed them.

so much to see ...

by Mandy23

So much to see and not enough time! We saw some of the well-known sights in Oslo, Bergen, Maihaugen and don´t forget to take a ferry tour on one of the incredible fjords like Geiranger- and Sognefjord and explore the famous and still hair-raising Trollstigveien road - do you have nerves of steel? Okay, then this road is for you ;-)But if I'll get the chance to go for a third time to Norway, I'd like to do some kind of backpacking trip off the beaten path. You´ll find some details on the seperate pages of the visited cities. So plz check therefore the menu of 'world travels' on the right side. Oh, it's not exactly the best memory, but when we went to Norway for the first time in 1995, I've had some unpleasant experience with heights and since that time I'm afraid of heights ;-)

Mountains and more mountains....

by JuraidahJ

Norway in a Nutshell - Its is a must for every tourist to Norway. Firstly, the scenic view of the country. We went on a drive to this waterfall and glazier and we had to pass thru 26 mountains – big and small, in order to get there. On the way, there were smaller waterfalls and that was the day in my life where I see more than 8 waterfalls within 10 hours. Secondly, the water that we drank while visiting Johannes’s friend – in one of the smaller towns. The water was so smooth and refreshing as it came from the waterfall. The whole town had their water supply from the waterfall.

Artic Polar Circle

by GUYON

Stop at the Artic Polar Circle. At the North of this line, there is no complete sunset during a part of the Summer. The number of days during which one can see the midnight sun increases as far as one goes to the north. The landscape at this point is amazing : a large naked plateau with the eternal snow in the far. The museum is expensive and without any interest.MORE ON THE TRAVELOGUE
