  • Hamardomen - cathedral under glass

    Hamar Things to Do

The remains of the old cathedral and the fortress that once used to be the home of the local bishop are the most important. They are located on a small peninsula, north of the city centre, and you can get there by walking along the beach. Here you can admire the view of the large lake. The old cathedral goes 850 years back in time, to 1152. It was a...

  • A culinary oasis

    Hamar Shopping

In Hamar, you get the best fish and seafood Norway can offer. Here you find one of the best fishmongers in the whole country. It is quite unexpected to find such a large variety of products here, so far away from the sea, but there are few places in Norway that rival Knutstad & Holen. They are well stocked and there are supplied with seafood of...

It is an easy walk, but far between houses and stores. Water in streams along the track is potable. You don't have to walk all the way. Several roads cross the track, one of them is the road 201...

Can be arranged by any of the accomodations mentioned, or at Glåmdal Reiseliv:P.S. Do you notice the guide's hat? It is made of tangled wool, it is so tightly tangled (with a fatty soap), that it is water proof! I will take a picture of mine and list under shoppingtips :-)

  • Where to eat in Elverum....

    Elverum Restaurants

I prefer Forstmann (at the Forest Museum), Steinbua or Peppes Pizza. A very nice new restaurant opened in 2006: "C" (the name of the restaurant), is located in the hotel Central in the middle of town.

  • Walking the banks of Glomma

    Elverum Things to Do

There are some nice pathways along the banks of the river. Some areas are a little secluded from the traffic and there are play areas for kids. Also there are some tiny sandy "beaches" (wouldn't recommend bathing though because it's a river after all). The trip could be combined with crossing the old bridge spanning the river. It's all just a nice...
