    Central Square

    by Gili_S Written Dec 18, 2005 4560 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: This is the central square and pedestrian street in the city centre. It seems that everything starts from here with crowded people, shopping, eating or just hanging around. Not sure how lovely it will be on a rainy day.

    The blue stone

Favorite thing: This is the most common place for a rendezvous. People arranging to meet in town usually agree to meet at "the blue stone" (den blå sten). Nobody knows what this monument is, but everybody knows where it is :-)
The location is below the theatre on the plaza "Togalmeningen"

    March in Bergen

    Bergen from the water

Favorite thing: In March you can expect any kind of weather. It can still snow and you can also get spring-like weather. But don’t expect to see flowers and green leaves for another couple of months. It’s a perfect month to visit the ski resorts. Voss is only an hour away by train, and you can get special deals including train ticket and ski-pass for one day.

    Bryggen

Favorite thing: The very first buildings in Bergen were alonside the harbour called Bryggen.Bryggen has been the nerve centre of the city.for centuries and the silhoutte of its ancients gables is perhaps the most familair image in all of Norway..

    Look at the pavements

by diocletianvs Updated Aug 23, 2003 993 reviews

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Bergen invests a lot in design of its streets and squares. This is a detail from the recently renovated Strandgaten. Between the regular stone paving there are these uniquely designed ceramic tiles done by one Danish artist.
Since this is one of the major shopping streets the pavements have built-in heating systems that prevents icing during the winter.

    Covered streets

by diocletianvs Updated Aug 22, 2003 993 reviews

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Since it rains a lot, owners of the local shops are usually covering part of the pavement in order to allow you rain-free window-shopping. In some places, you’ll find “covers” like these over lengthy portions of streets in the city centre. This photo was taken on recently renovated Torgallmenningen that features this colonnade of uniquely shaped stone columns supporting the glass “roof”.

    Sjomannsmonumenten

Favorite thing: This relief and statues conmemorates the people going to the sea during the centuries. The sculptures show you all the different people.
I guess its nice to take a little rest on in the summer.

    Bryggenstr

Favorite thing: At the backside. They are restoring this old part of Bergen. The small streets feel very claustrofobic.
