Galleriet by Vikingwoman Galleriet is a big building with a lot of different shops inside. So dont worry abot the rain.. There is restaurant on th 2 and 5 floor. Her you can by food, medicin, cloths for men and women, toys, books, films and so on.The also have a zoo shop with fich and birds, Fun for the shildren. But you dont get wine or spirits here- You go to the vinmonopol for this.
You can find a lot of things to by. In late Jan, there is mostly sales going on for some weeks so you can get something nice for not to muth money. Half price of half price is not usual. Leave a Comment Theme: Women's ClothesAddress: On the Torgalmenning

by Sue08080 This quaint shop, in the main shopping area of central Bergen, is filled with beautiful embroidery, most of the hardanger type, white on white with a variety of stitches and cut work. It is exquisitely hand done.
Mainly table linens
Good value for the money Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Shops on Bryggen by Igraine All the buildings at the Bryggen water front contain souvenir shops.
Sweaters, Trolls, tin. Other asorted touristy things. Dont forget the postcards for all your VT friends and family. I notice that some of the shops had a worldwide mailservice. If you do find that sweater, jacket or down covers you always looked for you can mail it home in stead of trying to put it in your already overflowing suitcase.
Norway is expensive so these shops are too if you want something decent Theme: Local CraftDirections: Bryggen

The Telegraph by daarth Here is another example of this great new trend to take care of old buildings. This is the old telegraph building that was out of use. They kept the style and changed the interior as little as possible to build several new and small shops inside. On the picture you see a nice cafe on the main floor. The roof and decorations are original. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Next to the "Galleriet" -see tip above

Galleriet by daarth It used to be a street with small shops on each side. Then they built a roof over it and closed the ends. Now it is a tasteful shopping mall with small shops in 5 stories around the "galleries". I like it when they make use of the old buildings instead of just tearing them down and building new.
Most of everything
Norway is a little more expensive than the average in Europe Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Right in the midle of town, next to the "Torvalmenningen"

Area near the harbour by daarth If you are a souvenir hunter, you will find those shops around the fish marked area. The largest shopping malls are outside town, but you will find most of what you need in the shopping centre at the bus station or "Galleriet" at the Torgalmenningen. Small shops are in most ereas of the town centre. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by FletteMette Norsk Flid, aka Husfliden, is a very well-known chain of shops - there are ca 30 Husfliden shops in towns all over Norway. Bergen does of course also have one, situated at Vågsallmenningen 3 right in the city centre. (Close to the Fish market and the tourist information office.) Husfliden is perhaps most known for its bunads - the bunad is the Norwegian national costume (more on my Norway page under "local customs") - each Husfliden store specialises in bunads from its local area, and in the Bergen store you'll be able to see some of the bunads from the counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane - there are usually bunads on display in the shop's windows. In addition to bunads, Husfliden offers quality gifts, jewelry and handicrafts - and a very nice selection of knitting yarn! If you're into knitting (or crocheting, weaving...) you'll find yarn (esp wool) in about a million different colours here. Also knitted sweaters, scarves and other clothes. Most products at Husfliden are designed and produced in Norway. (I always though everything was Norwegian, until I discovered that they'd got Finnish Marimekko stuff here!) Husfliden isn't a cheap place to shop, but the products are generally of very high quality. Highly recommended. Santa´s are a Norwegian specialty. They call them nisse, but they look like santa´s to us. Theme: GiftsDirections: Bryggen, somewhat halfway

by Gili_S This is the local Bergen Aquavit. The Aquavit is the traditional spirit of Scandinavia, if you want to buy it, wait until you get to the airport or the ferry, it will be much cheaper there as tax free.
