    Bergen Fish Market

This is not a classic tourist trap, but a warning not to expect too much of the "famous Bergen Fish Market".
Every tourist guidebook will put this place on top of tourist attractions, close to Bryggen or Fløyen.
In reality, you'll find few outdoor stalls with fresh fish (but how many tourists are buying fresh fish while visiting certain town?) and (probably) fresh but same-price-as-in-the-supermarket vegetables.
I guess the high position of Fish Market in all tourist guides of Bergen is sponsored by several stalls that offer extremly overpriced souvenirs. You've been warned!

Unique Suggestions: Well, it's hard to avoid this place since it's in the heart of Bergen. Walking around won't hurt (at least they still don't charge for the entrance :-)

    INTERNATIONAL (?) fish market

Not a single Norwegian has survived among the tenants of the stalls in the fish market. Spaniards, Italians, Japanese peddle their seafood to you in your native tongue. Tons of tourists probably buy the stuff. No poetry, not even fake folklore.
    Very sad.

All of the guidebooks said you had to visit the fish market but our first reaction upon seeing it was that we weren't at the right place. But of course we were and what we found was a lot of vendors who didn't strike me as even remotely Norwegian selling a lot of fish that wasn't locally harvested, some of it clearly frozen, some of it marked with it's real country of origin. One product that is local is the really dark, almost black meat which is whale meat, a rather controversial issue in much of the world.

Unique Suggestions: I'd tell you not to worry if you miss this but if you are walking around Bergen, surely you will pass through, many of the vendors offer samples of their products which are bundled up for the tourists.

    The infamous Fish Market...
I have hardly ever found good fresh fish in this town, usually some hundred meters away from this tourist attraction...
You may enjoy a beer down there, but you can find more charming places anywhere in the center.
