For only NOK60 you can catch a bus from the city centre (Strømgaten. 8) to the airport, there are about 3 buses an hour. The bus stops at a couple of places along the way and takes about 20-25 mins to get to the airport.

Check the website for more details.

Flybuss Airport Bus

Airport / Center of Bergen

The best way to get into center of Bergen is by the frequent bus service. To the airport: leaving from Radisson SAS Royal Hotel at Bryggen, via Radisson SAS Hotel Norge and the bus station (platform 17) to the Bergen Airport, Flesland and return (the same route).

Cadence about each 20 min.

Approx. 25 minutes bus ride at off-peak hours.

Adults NOK60,- children NOK 30,- (2006 prices)

For more information please inquire at the airlines, your hotel or at the tourist information office at Flesland or in the city center. Tel. 177 (local calls)

Roadworks on E39

There are roadworks along the E39, the road from Bergen to Førde. Approximately some 60 km from Bergen, high up in the mountains.

By what I saw it looks as if they are making another tunnel for the roadconditions were pour on that particular stretch of the road and there was a lotta activity both sides of the mountain.

Norway has a good system of long distance bus services.
I found the busstation a bit confusing at first, but that was also due to the not so tourist friendly busdriver who dropped me out front of the station.
Then I had to find my way to the Express bus that would take me to Førde.

Express buses are parked along the back of the station, local buses are up front near the road.

If I remember correctly, expressbuses leave every other 2 hours and it is not too hard to find the one you need.

Cost me 350 NOK (2007) to get to Førde, 4 hours up north (4 hours because of travelconditions, not the distance).

Me, 7 hours of travelling at Bergen busstation

When you leave Bergen airport, Flesland there will be busses waiting for you to take you to Bergen city, the so called Flybus.
This will take about half an hour and will cost you 75 NOK (2007), payable at the busdriver.
Do not expect the busdriver to help you, he most probably will not.

Airport bus

The Flybussen airport buses run between Bergen and the airport every 15 minutes during the day.

The buses operate the following route:

Airport - Bergen bus station - SAS Hotel Norge - Lido (Tourist Information) - SAS Hotel Bryggen

The journey between the airport and the town centre takes around 45 minutes, although it can take as little as 30 minutes depending on traffic.

Buses leave the airport a short time after each flight arrival. My flight arrived at 11:50pm and the bus (the last one for the day) left for Bergen at 00:30. If you arrive during the day, you'll be fine - there will be a bus departing every few minutes. However, be careful if you arrive on a late flight - after the 00:30 bus left, there were no more buses until 07:30 the next morning. I had ample time to collect my luggage, withdraw cash from a cash machine and purchase a ticket from the bus driver.....and still had 15 minutes to spare. Just be aware that if you miss the final bus you'll either be stuck in the airport overnight or you will have to pay for an expensive taxi.

Needless to say, with this being an airport bus, there is ample room on board for luggage (at no extra cost).

Ticket costs

Adults: 72 NOK
Kids: 36 NOK

Bus to Ulrikken

If a walk all the way to the cablecar, or the work of finding which local buss to take there seem like daunting tasks. Relax: There are buses going from the city center all the way to the cable cars. All in all you'll have to walk say 50 meters max to get from the center of Bergen to the top of Bergen (Ulrikken)

a queue for the bus

The best way to get around Bergen is with the local bus company Gaia. There are lots of hills and some tunnels in Bergen area, so bicycle is not recomende. And if you drive a car you must pay toll (10 kr. Thats about 1,5 Euro) to get into the citycentre.
A city-centre busticket cost 12 kr. (1,7 Euro), and ordinary busstickets costs from 23 kr. (2 Euro).
The airportbus cost 65 kr. (about 8 Euro)

Although Bergen's centre is quite compact if you want to move around you can use public buses operated by Gaia Trafikk company.

Buses operate in wide area of Bergen, divided into ten fare-zones.
Two-zone ticket (covering wider central area of Bergen) costs 23 NOK (June 2003).

For lines, maps and schedules see their website or any bus stop.

be aware of the expensive bus tickets in Bergen. Don't buy a day card unless you know you're going on more than three trips. Buying a value card could be an alternative.
