This is the sight of Bergen Harbor in summertime (photo was taken July 2012). In the summer months of June, July and August every year one can observe Luxury cruise liner docked at Skolten, Vågen Harbor. Various ships of sizes and catamarans (domestic ferry) can be seen. In winter months of December, January and February, the Harbor is almost...

I found the old building beautiful and interesting. They are all around, in the city centre, in the Brygeen and even when getting further up the hill to the Floyen direction. So I added here few examples.

An important part of Bergen's identity is the old wooden warf buildings called "Bryggen" Bryggen was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 1979 and is now one of 4 sites on that list from Norway. These old warf buildings date back to the 14th century when Bergen was part of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. Another known (and the...

This is the central square and pedestrian street in the city centre. It seems that everything starts from here with crowded people, shopping, eating or just hanging around. Not sure how lovely it will be on a rainy day.

The snow has laid a blanket over the landscape. It really lightens your mind as it lightens up the dark months of winter. Some times I feel it's a shame the snow doesn't last longer, but on the other side we do have a mild climate here on the coast View over the "Grimstad Fjord" from the Mountain "Knappen" a short walk from my home.

There are many cruise lines that visit Norway, while we were in various ports we saw Costa, Princess, P&O, Azamara Club, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and many other smaller ships. The prime cruise season is short, when we asked about going in early September most advised against it because of the cooler weather, shorter days and as I've found after,...

I just enjoyed this fantastic part of the world. My ship was Trollfjord, I understand similar to Midnatsol. My trip was from June 23rd to July 4th.,Bergen to Bergen. It was summer, yes, but we still had some cold days. On these (cold) days, the cabin was always at a nice temperature. Besides, they have extra blankets in the closet, or otherwise,you...

This is a view of the city of Bergen from the top of Mount Floyen...there are some great views up there...I totally recommend it! It was quite windy when we were up there though, enough that I even felt like I would be blown off the edge of the platform. ;) I'd recommend you take a good jacket to break the cold wind.

This is very large and impressive art museum of Bergen. Located just by the small lake not far from the city centre. OK, I admit it, with the great sunshine I had outside during my visit, I thought to leave this one for the future visit on a rainy day. Bergen Kunstmuseum

I could not find any information as to the significance of the design or colors, except that it was designed in such as a way as not to be that similar to the Danish Flag. Denmark ruled Norway for a number of years and the designers of the Norsk flag wanted to be sure that their sovereignty was recognized!

    Bergen Favorites

The picture is of Ole Bull (1810-1880) and can be found at Ole Bullsplass, Bergen. To be honest when I took this picture I had no idea of who 'Ole' was, I just thought the statue and fountain were beautiful. It was only when I got home that I found out Ole Bull was/is a famous violinist from Bergen who "entertained a strong conviction that Norway...

  • Mount Ulriken

    Bergen Favorites

Bergen is a gem of a city. Its location in a beautiful harbor hemmed in by mountains is reminiscent of Vancouver Canada, and it has the added charm of a well-preserved medieval core, the Bryggen District. You'll have to take the cable car to the top of Mt. Ulriken for postcard views of the city, harbor, and surrounding hills.

We had never seen a stave church before and weren't quite sure what it actually was so we headed out to the Fantoft Stave Church. After catching a bus out to a 'suburb' we had a 10 minute hike into the 'woods'. The cute stave church was hidden away amongst the trees. We also found some really nice people along the way who were great help! The...

Visit the fjords - that's the single most important thing that makes Bergen so unique and a 'must se' destination'. You can choose: take a cruise (long or short), view them from above, take a scenic rail journey - it's up to you! Definitely the view of the fjords!
