  • Mount Fløien

    4.5 out of 5 stars

    Bergen Things to Do

In my opinion, one "must-do," even on the shortest visit, is to go to the top of Mount Fløyen. You can walk up if you like, but the most fun way is to take the Fløybanen funicular. Atop the mountain, you are rewarded with excellent views of Bergen and the sea. Facilities at the top include a cafeteria (only open weekends in Winter), a souvenir...

    Bergen Restaurants

Went there for the birthday of a friend working there, on Sunday. Good points: Gnocchis were good, quite cheap (89kr) Bad: Close at 11PM, and quantity is far to be suffisiant... same thing for all what my freinds took (calzone, pizza, pasta...). In this case I prefer to pay 200kr for a **big** piece of meat @ Egon, with many fries.

    Voss Things to Do

Experience the wilderness in walking distance from the center of Voss! The deep and dramatic Bordalsgjelet (gorge) is accessible to the public with information boards, viewpoints and benches. When there is snow and ice it can be very slippery and dangerous. Here you get a good view of the great "jettegrytene" (pot-holes), and waterfalls. But...

    Ulvik Things to Do

Ulvikpollen is a small tidal marsh at the end of Ulvikfjord. The shallow fjord, and the sandbanks that appear at low tide provide many wetland species with favoured habitat. The surrounding farmland and areas of scrub brush and small trees are always worth checking for passerines.

Kinsarvik church is well worth a visit inside. I was truly amazed that a place harbouring such treasures was open and admission was free, very unusual for Norway. The island of Sotra covers the municipalities of Sund, Fjell and Oygarden. All of these areas have good birding localities. Sea watching at Golta, Skogsoy and Svellingen is good for visible migration especially in May when on a good day you can see all four species of Diver or large flocks of Barnacle and Brent Geese on their way north to their arctic breeding grounds. If you need a guide, just give me a phone.
