Aksla rises up from the park in the middle of downtown. While it is possible to take a taxi to the top, you can also take the stairs. It's only 425 steps, and the view feels so much more rewarding if you walk, than if you take a cab. And it feels so much better to say 'I climbed Aksla' than 'I took a cab'. Put that on your T-shirt. In front of the old pharmacy, now turned into the main office of the Jugendstil-centre, and placed directly on the sound, is this nice little area to relax and tempt you to take pictures. as a tourist in ålesund you'll probably need to find the tourist information. But the tourist organization is a different place, where they mainly work with different hikings trips and they don't know what's happening in Ålesund, but they do know a lot about other places sorrounding the place.
