by Maria_75 In 1992 opened the "KRIFAST" project. This meant that you could go driving to and from Kristiansund without having to take a ferry. The Freifjordtunnel takes you under Kvernesfjorden and is 5102 meters. The tunnel takes you from the island Bergsøya to the island Frei. From Frei bridges takes you all the way in to the city center of Kristiansund. From Bergsøya there is a bridge to Gjemnes which takes you in the direction of Molde. This is a hanging bridge. If you want to go the other way there is another bridge on Bergsøya which takes you to Aspøya, and from there on to Tingvoll and Sunndalsøra. This is a floating bridge. by Maria_75 Another way of getting to and from Kristiansund is with ferry. The ferry goes from the harbour in Kristiansund to Bremsnes, which is located on the island of Averøya. The ferry is line number 41. The crossing takes about 20 minutes, and it departs many times a day. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Drive and enjoy the coastal view between Kristiansun and Molde or vice versa. You will encounter cute fishing villages, small roads with beautiful flowers on both sides and nice long bridges. You can stop for a cup of coffee whenever you want. Norwegian coffee is good. I like it very much. Theme: Car/Motor Home

Sundbåten with Gomalandet in the background by Tonjebj Sundbåten is the world oldest public transportation carrier in continous operation. Founded in 1876 It is not as old as the cable cars in San Francisco, but they were out of operation a few years. The boat takes you between the four islands or parts of the town often refered to as "lands" which litterally means countries. These are Kirklandet (down town, where it's most convenient to enter the trip), Innlandet, Nordlandet and Gomalandet. The trip in good weather is rather scenic, and the price is comparable to taking the local bus. Leave a Comment

Grip is a fishing village 14km outside of Kristiansund, which is only populated in the summer, but people used to live there until the early 70s. Until 1964 it was the smallest municipality in Norway, but is now a part of Kristiansund. On the main island you find the Grip stave church from the 15th century. It's one of the smallest remaining stave churches in Norway. The weather at Grip can be very harsh, but on a calm summer day it's a beautiful place to visit. A roundtrip will cost ~190kr (2006) Leave a Comment

by Maria_75 The Atlantic Road goes between the island of Averøy and the mainland. The length is 8.274 meters and consists of eight bridges, jumping from one small island to another. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The road was opened in 1989 and was elected "The construction of the Century" in Norway. On the many little islands there are restaurants, rorbu, cabins, cafees, places for diving and a lot of excellent places for fishing. Allthough the road is only 8 km you should really take your time here. Stop in the small islands, take a walk around and most important: take pictures! This is a beautiful place which you should try to see if you are nearby! Leave a Comment

by Maria_75 Kirkelandet church is from 1964, and stands on the island of Kirkelandet in Kristiansund. The church was designed by architect Odd Østbye. The artist Gunnar S. Gundersen designed the crusifics and the wall. This church is different from other traditional churches. The idea was that it should shine like a crystal, in between the surrounding roses. by Maria_75 The city council of Kristiansund decided in 1875 to build a church on the island Nordlandet, which is part of the city. First they wanted to take the old church from the main square, and move it to Nordlandet. The old church had not been used for many years. But in the end it got to expencive to move it, so they tore the church down. In Nordlandet they built a new one, which is the one standing here today. Leave a Comment
