From Øye drive through the narrow Norang-valley, (Norangsdalen). You'll pass old, small mountain-farms looking almost as part of the nature. In 1908 a landslide from the mountains dammed he river, and a created a new lake. Under water one can still see part of the old road, fences and ruins of mountain-farms. Geiranger - said to be one of the most, if not THE most, beautiful fjord in the world. Now also on the UNESCO heritage list.A little village at the mouth of the fjord, surrounded my enormously high and steep mountains. The only ways to get here is by boat, or down one of the two steep roads with endlessly many hairpin bends.Read more at my Geiranger page.
I was looking forward to seeing Romsdalsalpene, but unfortunately I couldnt see anything. The clouds were so dense and so low, that it was impossible to see the mountains.I had seen many photos of Romsdalsalpene before our roadtrip, so I closed my eyes and pretended I was looking at them... It worked - kind of... ;)"The alps of Romsdal" consists of 222 mountainpeaks, and one of the best places to see them is from the mountain behind Molde. If the weather wants you to see them... :)
Trollstigen is one of the most famous touristattractions in Norway, and definetly worth a visit! The narrow road winds up the steep mountain, with plenty of hairpin bends.I had many sleepless nights before I went there. When I was standing at the bottom my heart was beating at an astronomic rate, my hands and feet were trembling and I felt almost sick.But driving up Trollstigen was no problem at all! The fog was so dense that I could barely see the lights of the car a few metres in front of me. But I was happy!Because of the dense fog I couldnt see down the steep hill. I kept telling myself that I was driving on a normal road in the fog - and it worked.The next day the road got closed because of the weather...
Right in the middle of Trollstigen and Geiranger lies this beautiful town.Valldal is the strawberry county of Norway. The town is located next to Norddalsfjorden and is surrounded by high mountains. Tingvoll has been inhabited for a long time, and you can find architectural and historic sites in this area.The church in Tingvoll was built in 1180 and is said to be one of the most beautiful in the country. You can also find old inscriptions in a hillside, the biggest area of inscriptions in Scandinavia. Sunndalsøra is a little town in the county of Møre and Romsdal with 4.500 inhabitants.The rivers Driva and Litldalselva both run through Sunndalsøra and out in the beautiful Sunndalsfjorden. The fjord is approximately 60 km long.Read more at my Sunndalsøra page.
Kristiansund is a city in the north of Vestlandet - the western part of Norway. about 17.000 people lives there.The city is situated on three islands, and you can only get there through tunnels under the fjord, bridges over the sea and ferries between the islands. The Atlantic Road goes between the island of Averøy and the mainland. The length is 8.274 meters and consists of eight bridges, jumping from one small island to another. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.The road was opened in 1989 and was elected "The construction of the Century" in Norway.On the many little islands there are restaurants, rorbu, cabins, cafees, places for diving and a lot of excellent places for fishing.Allthough the road is only 8 km you should really take your time here. Stop in the small islands, take a walk around and most important: take pictures!This is a beautiful place which you should try to see if you are nearby!
Djupvatnet is located on the mountains near Geiranger. From here goes a very scenic route, Nibbeveien, up to the peak Dalsnibba, 1495 meters. Djupvasshytta, a cabin next to Djupvatnet, is located at 1030 meters.Read more at my Djupvatn page.
