Tingvoll has been inhabited for a long time, and you can find architectural and historic sites in this area.
The church in Tingvoll was built in 1180 and is said to be one of the most beautiful in the country.
You can also find old inscriptions in a hillside, the biggest area of inscriptions in Scandinavia. These are more than 3000 years old, and there are drawings of moose, salmon and deer.
There was a flat field in Tingvoll, which in Norwegian is called voll. It was here that meetings were held, called ting. From this came the name Tingvoll, the same origin as the "english" "Dingwall".
