portrait in grey and blue by yooperprof Take a stroll out the breakwall to get a sense of the dimension of the harbor. It's not hard to see why this was such a desirable place to establish a major transportation center for the northland! I like a lot of the newer architecture along the harborfront - it seems to blend in well with the surrounding natural features. Leave a Comment

by maritagnes Bodø's fish oil factory situated on the little island Burøya, which you can look directly over too from the harbour. In my childhood we could virtually SEE the smell, as a yellow fog hanging in the air. Due to modern technology the odour is only rarely noticeable, and very faint. Leave a Comment

The Birds by yooperprof Bodø has a very admirable program of sponsoring contemporary sculpture in public locations scattered around the town. These sea eagles embody the resilient spirit of the region; they can be found close to the center of Bodø, just off Sjøgata. Leave a Comment

by davidcross There is one of those vehicles which takes tourists on trips which sets out at 1300 every day to fit in with the Hurtigruten. Not only does it allow you to see the main sights of the city in a short time but it gets you into Bodo Cathedral which would oterwise be shut. This is a 1950s building made of concrete with a detached belltower [photo] and marvellous stained glass windows.
Being welcomed at the quay. See intro. Leave a Comment

by maritagnes Bodo is declared the town of Sea Eagles, being the town in the world having the largest amount of eagles. Anybody who's been to Bodo and has personally seen the Eagle there, can become a member of the Bodo Sea Eagle Club, the world's only one. (Photo: Stella Polaris) Leave a Comment

Go to Saltstraumen. You can reach it by Bus within short time. First there's a huge Bridge (80 meters high) and it's also one of the worlds strongest tidal cxurrents. Very impressing.
Most buildings look very new in Bodo, because it was bombed in WWII. This makes the Town look pretty, but it's sad if you think about the reason. I met nice Locals there. Leave a Comment

The people of Bod are very friendly. I was fortunate enough to have made friends that I have been able to see upon return trips and enjoy the pleasure of their company. While there, be sure to enjoy a pint of Nordland Pils, what was a locally brewed pilsner (now brewed in Oslo, I think!). (Though I have friends that will die for Mack! Leave a Comment
