The old fortress of Nyholmen with its lighthouse is a great recreation area. The small peninsula with the fortress is situated right outside the centre of Bodø, but you will need a car or a bicycle to get out there.
There is a an interesting and well-designed non-denominational chapel in the Bodin Churchyard - the clean lines and simple materials employed by the architect accentuate the natural beauty of the setting. It's an outstanding example of sensitive and well-executed modern design, IMHO.
A little walk out from the center of Bodø will bring you to Bodin Kirke, on the southern entrance into the town. (It was about half an hour at a leisurely pace for me.) This attractive onion-domed structure was originally built in the 13th century, though the tower and most of the handsome interior dates from the Baroque period. I was fortunate - the church was open when I was there, and the organist was practicing. Seeing Bodin Kirke brought me back in time-sense to Norway's Protestant past - it was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip.
the whole archipelago is incredible but i camped at this amazing beach right outside of henningsvaer that is definitely worth stopping out. the water, however, doesn't seem to get much warmer than about 13 or 14 degrees.
Did you know that the area around Bodø is the 'land of the sea eagles'? There isn't a place in whole Europe where you can see so many of those huges birds. It's impressive if you're out in the nature and one of those rare birds surrounds you! It's as well the symbol of the town Bodø and almost everywhere you can see at least a sign of those birds. So, don't wonder about it - the citizens of Bodø live for theirs sea eagles. Or at least I got this impression... :)
A Reformation-era Norwegian pastor - he must have been associated with this church. Very fashionable clerical garb!
A geodesic dome, striking in contrast to its mountain backdrop. (Incidentally, "Binders" is an office supply store.)
Go outside the citycenter to experience the very nice nature... You find both white sand beaches and the green sea!!!
There are heaps of excellent peaks to climb around town. This is best done in the light of the midnight sun if you ask me. Ask me for advice on this if u ever come!
