Lomen stavkyrje /stave church

by Hildeal

Located in the community of Lomen in Vestre Slidre. It was built in the second half of the 12th century. We were there to celebrate olsok the 29th of July. It's the date for the battle for Stiklestad in 1030 and the death of St. Olaf. I liked listening to the choir singing hymns. Before going to church there's a tradition of serving waffles and rømmegrøt (sour cream porrigde served in the yard near the priest house. In the priest house there's also a galleri presented by a Norwegian artist. Unfortunately I didn't have time to see it.

In the end, the church had to be moved further from the river. In 1747 the church was dismantled and its pieces hidden under the floor of the new church built on the site. They...
