Get touristinfo at the trainstation; Oslo S by Maria_75 There are two touristinformations in Oslo. One is located by the City Hall down by Aker Brygge. The adress is Fridtjof Nansensplass 5, but the entrance is from Roald Amundsensgate - between Karl Johansgate and the City Hall. It is open from 9-19 every day, but is closed on public holidays. The other touristinformation is located at the trainstation Oslo Sentralstasjon (Oslo S). The adress is Jernbanetorget 1. This place is open from 8-23 every day, but is also closed on public holidays. These places can give you more info about the city, and they have different kinds of brochures that you can take with you. You can also buy the card "Oslo-pass" here. At least check it out, as it can save you lots of money. They can also help with accomodation, transportaion, exchange, sightseeing, excursions and so on. See the city by bus by Maria_75 Like many other cities around the world, you can also go sightseeing by bus in Oslo. City Sightseeing has a red doubledecker that drives you around to many of the main attractions. You can choose to have the guidance in nine different languages; norwegian, english, german, spanish, french, italian, finnish, japanese and russian. The tour takes you around the city to places like Munch Museum, Vigeland Sculpture Park, mainstreet Karl Johansgate and so on. I have never taken this tour so I don't know how it is. But I have taken similar tours in other cities and have always found them to be very good. It's a great way of becoming more familiar with a city, seeing where the different things are located, plus learning more about the history and the different places. Oslo by diocletianvs Oslo Tourist Office has two main Tourist Information centres. One is situated at the Central Train Station (Jernbanetorget 2) and the main one just opposite the City Hall (Fridtjof Nansens Plass 5). Here you can get free maps of Oslo, a yearly official tourist guide to Oslo and a monthly brochure "What's on Oslo". Their friendly staff will answer all your questions and you can also book your accommodation using their services. It is also possible to buy the "Oslo Pass" (covering public transport and free admission to most museums) and the "Oslo Package" that includes accommodation in one of hotels and the Oslo Pass. At the price of 280 NOK for 2 days I did not opt for the Oslo Pass: I didn't visit many museums and most of Oslo's attractions are within the walking distance anyway so I simply paid only few individual tram tickets which was cheaper.
Check their very useful website for general info on Oslo before you go: www.visitoslo.com OSLO PROMOTION Fridtjof Nansens Plass 5 N-0160 Oslo tel. +47 23 11 78 80 fax. +47 22 83 81 50 Leave a Comment

Webcam at Kikutstua by Maria_75 Do you want to see how it looks like in Oslo right now? Here are links to webcams from different places around the city. Some of these cams are in places where there's not so much to see in the dark, so the best is to look at them when there is daylight here. (But in wintertime we don't have so many hours of daylight though... ;) Karl Johan (Right now there is a big christmas tree in front of this camera... But you can still see Karl Johans gate and the Royal Castle in the background) Youngstorget Akersgata Finnerud, Sørkedalen The harbour, with Aker Brygge and the city hall Herbern, Aker Brygge Kikutstua Frognerseteren Downtown Tryvann Bjørvika, building the operahouse Harbour Ammerudskogen Oslomarka, the forest around Oslo Leave a Comment

Pharmacy ('apotek') at Jernbanetorget, 24h open by ruffen In Oslo there is one 24 hours open pharmacy ( 'apotek' in norwegian). It is located down town at Jernbanetorget (across from main railway station and shopping centers 'Oslo City' and 'Byporten'). In 2004 shops, kiosks and petrol stations was given permition to sell painkillers (not the strongest ones) and a few other "light" medical stuff, othervise we norwgians have to go to the pharmacy. If the door is closed when you visit outside normal opening hours, ring the door bell (at least it was one there when I had to visit at 0700 some years ago). Leave a Comment

I have been to Oslo twice, and came back pretty skint after each visit. I would say if you plan to go there, take lots of money with you, as it can be an exceedingly expensive city, its known to be one of the most expensive cities in Europe, but still dont let that put you off visiting it.
I loved Oslo so much I had to visit it twice. The waterfront (Akerbrygge) is also worth visiting, there are nice restaurants and bars, that offer a wide variety of tastes. I would also recommend going on a ferry boat to one of the smaller islands to have a walk on them, if you have a travel card, you need not pay extra for the boat trip. Leave a Comment
