The name of this pub means "The Old Major's Laboratory". I don't know if it has actually been a laboratory once, but once you enter the pub and look down through the glass under your feet, you'll see that there is a basement full of old laboratory stuff.
The pub is furnished and decorated in the old-fashioned style. There even is a secret doorway to the toilets (I'm not telling where). And once you find your way to the toilets, make sure to look in the mirror. Closely... Muahahahaha!
Den Gamle Majors Lab can give you a good laughter once or twice, but the beer is too expensive (52 kroner for 0.4 l) so don't make this to your favourite pub. Unless you have an abundance of money.
Dress Code: I don't think they care, as long as you're not coming in your PJ's.

According to Mixmag and Face, this is one of the coolest clubs on earth and I'm prepared to agree. The local is actually an old public bathroom, but don't get disgusted about that. They clean the toilets every morning (gee, sorry.. I couldn't help it). No, seriously. This place is one of my favourite clubs ever. If you like hard core techno and house, this is the place for you. It's small but very friendly. Famous DJ's from all around the world comes to Oslo to play on this club.
Dress Code: Well no, not really. Think you can wear pretty much whatever you want.

There are not many places left in Oslo where they play old fashioned rock, but this is one of those places. The interior is cosy, the staff friendly and there is a nice terrace that's open from April to September. Go check it out. The beer is good too (well duh...).
Every Thuesday in summertime there is a concert on the terrace.
Dress Code: This is a rock club, so you can look like s**t and still be the hippest person in the club. Just put your rock face on and you'll be fine. No, really.

Parkteatret Scene and Bar is a new and vibrant scene in Oslo. It has a mixture of contemporary, classical and cross-over events that constitute a unique blend of repertoire.
The place is favoured by young and middle-aged people from the media, art schools, thatre and film.
Parkteatret is situated in a part of Oslo that was developed in the 1880’s on the basis of city ideals from Berlin and Dresden. From the beginning of the 1990’s the area has become revigorated and is now the most vibrant part of the city. Here Parkteatret has become the cultural hub of what some call Oslo’s Greenwich Village.
The room and the building surrounding it is classic 19th century Viennese architecture. The concert hall itself is in its original shape, although the stage has undergone a complete rebuild so that it meets the standard of sound reflection found only in other good venues in Europe. By musicians in Oslo it is now generally talked about as perhaps the best room for acoustic performance.
Parkteatret Bar is a very popular drinking hole for students, professionals and locals alike. Twice a week there are concerts. Jazz, rock, C&W.

What is a city tour without a "Dubliner"? It is nice to know that no matter what you can walk into this place and it will be just like you think it will. Your typical Irish pub with live bands and all the Guiness you could want. There is at least a 60kr cover charge
Dress Code: Nothing too fancy.

Thought this was about the best bar/nightspot we went into. Not sure what the cost of normally getting in is. We payed 10 Kroner I think one night but nothing the next (Sunday) but where earlier.
Plenty of other bar/clubby options down this street also.
Dress Code: As with Fridays everyone seemed pretty smart.

Beautiful atmosphere in this historic West End pub - it reminded me of one of the great English beer palaces. A well-heeled and friendly clientele enjoys comfortable booths and high-top tables that look out onto the street. "West End" prices, too. If you come from a place with cheap beer, you really don't want to think about how expensive Norway is in general, and this bar is in particular. Expect to pay between 50 and 65 NoK for smallish pints, more for wine and mixers. Oh well, it's only money. . .
(I just tell myself that in my life I've had many many beers for which I've paid $2 or less - and so it all evens out in the end.)
