This was for a long time THE place to be for the people from the westside of Oslo. Prices are high and the dresscode a bit stiff, but it's an ok place to spend the night and it's always lots of people here. They also serve food, mostly american and tex-mex, and there's a disco in the basement.
There are many tv-screens around the bar, and they are showing the major sports events, from football to Superbowl and skiing.

This used to be one of my favorite places, but it's always so crowded here. It's impossible to walk one meter without being bumped into all the time, and you are very lucky if you last a whole night without someone spilling a drink on you.
But the music is great and sometimes there are even live conserts here. They play mostly alternative or rock-kind of music, and you can meet absolutely all kinds of people here.
It's a great place to take a drink or two, but on the most crowded nights it can get too tiresome to stay here a long time. But absolutely worth checking out.

This is the 'littlebrother' of nearby Rockefeller that hosts a lot of bigger conserts. John Dee is often used as a 'vorspiel'- or 'nachspiel' place to many of the conserts in Rockefeller.
It's a very nice place, and some of the conserts that are here are pretty good. Most bands that play here are up-and-coming rock bands.

This is one of my favorite places, but unfortunately there are lots of others that think the same. Sometimes it can get too crowded, and if you come too late you have to wait in a long line to get inside.
The place is located next to McDonalds in Grønland. Just follow the music and the long line... :) They also have a roofterrace, and it's very nice to sit here in the summer evenings.

Den gamle majors lab means "the laboratory of the old major", and it is a very interesting place. It's absolutely worth a visit, if only to find the toilet... ;) The door to the toilet is hidden in one of the bookcases, but I won't tell you where. When you have found the way inside the toilet you can hear different screams, and if you look in the mirror you might see other strange things, besides yourself... The interior is a strange mix of old english pub and modern laboratory, and the staff is dressed in white doctors coats.
Many years ago this was a dark and tired pub, but it has gone through a big renovation and is today a popular place in Majorstua. They also serve food for a great price, but the drinks are a bit expencive here.

Fru Hagen was one of the first trendy places that opened in Grünerløkka and contributed to making this one of the hottest areas in the city. It's perphaps one of the most famous places in Grünerløkka, and for many years this was one of the most important places to be seen.
I've never really understood why, though. It's a very nice place, but you can find similar places around the city. It's not too expencive, but there are lots of just as nice places nearby that are even cheaper. If you don't come early and get a table, it can be a very tiresome experience. It's always very crowded and people will bump in to you all the time. But it's still one of the most popular places in Grünerløkka, so it can be worth checking it out.

The night don't have to be a total failure if you end up in Fiasco (also called Fia). It is a very nice place, and has been one of my favourites for many years. The beer is one of the cheapest in the city, and there are always many people here.
They play mainly rock and alternative music, with lots of old classics. The only problem is that they play incredibly loud, and it seems like they put the volume even more up every fifteen minutes... It can also get very crowded here, so come a bit early if you want to have a place to sit.
It's located right next to hotel Oslo Plaza, and in the middle of the train- and busstation. They also serve some light food here, and it's a nice place to sit and wait for your bus or train.

This is another place that popped up in Grønland after the area became more trendy. It has the same owners as Fru Hagen in Grünerløkka, and the name means "the daughter of Hagen". It's not as cheap as the 'original' places in Grønland, but the prices are still good. It's very popular and can be quite crowded sometimes.
The atmosphere is very nice and relaxed, and there are also some couches (with variable comfortableness...) were you can have some drinks and talk with your friends. The first floor is a café, while the second floor is more like a club. They also have a backyard where you can sit in summer. The music is normally quite good, and there are always lots of people here. Don't come too late in the weekends or you might have to wait a long time to come inside.
Dress Code: You can come as you like, but most people dress a bit up in the weekend.

Café Kaos is not as caothic as it might sound, even if it has both nightclub, café, coffeebar, club and concerts. It is a modern and very popular place, with a big space in the backyard which you can also use in winter because of their warminglamps. They even have wireless access here, in case you brought your laptop and want to surf the net.
