For early evenings you should try 'Cafe Bakhus' and 'Cappuccino', just next to the main street- Karl Johans str.- and near the central railway station OSLO S.
Later in the evening try 'Cafe Amsterdam', behind the 'National Gallery', or 'Nickolson Cafe', both in the center, between the Parlament building and what they call the 'Royal Palace' (it looks more as a government administration building with a nice park around it).
Special restrictions to alcohol consumption apply- ask for the rules and anyway avoid the drunk norwegians you may meet down-town. They can spoil your evening, unless you are familiar with the nothern european culture of drinking ...

Most clubs and restaurants per square km than any other places I now in north europe.
Some open nearly around the clock. When one place close people go to the next.
Dress Code: put on what you like, but most places appreciate som style even if you can pass with jeans, T-shirt and sneekers.

We did not go out in Oslo as it would have cost us too much money. WAY too much money. I think the average beer would cost like 10 bucks canadian...FOR ONE!

You will find every kind of bars, disco's and restaurants along Karl Johan and the side streets.

There didn't appear to be that many dance clubs but there's not a shortage of bars. Even around 10pm the town is still relatively quiet but it warms up later on.

Oslo have more night life than even the biggest metropolitan citys.
Smuget is well-recomended because of the mixed public and good music.
Dress Code: Formal as informal dress code depending on the sight.

There is many nice places to go out both for eating and drinking around in the city.. In the summer it is very popular to sit out in the streets and take a beer at one of the restaurants....
