Gardermoen is an excellent airport, one of the most convenient and well-thought-out I've ever flown through. It's a very new terminal: I read in an architectural guidebook that it was the largest construction project ever undertaken on Norwegian soil. Quality and intelligence are evident in all aspects of the design; no corners were cut here. The ample use of glass and wood is quite striking. To me, Gardermoen represents the best of modern Scandinavian architecture.

Flying in from Europe will give you a pleasant meeting with Norway. The 'new' (opened October 8th 1998) Oslo Airport Gardermoen is an fairly small airport (compared to busy airports such as Heathrow, London and Schiphol, Amsterdam), with an average of less than 500 takeoffs/landings a day.
You will find it easy to navigate at the airport, there is just one terminal serving both domestic and international flights, but the dutyfree area in the international area is still very good, and you will find lots of cafes if the waiting time is long.

Flight from Geneva to Norway. Ask the pilot to have a look to the Mont Blanc (highest European summit with 4'807 meters), higher than clouds inthis particulary case ;-)

I was flying either with Finnair or SAS to the Oslo Gardermoen airport.
For me, from Helsinki it is almost like a local flight, just about 60 minutes on the air.

The easiest way to get there is taking a plane to Oslo airport. Keep in mind that it's situated quite far from the city. SAS Airline is flying to most major European cities.

A: While it may not win international awards for the best airline in the world, Iceland Air is perfectly fine. As for safety, the last crash was in 1978.
