Well you've probably heard of 2nd hand clothes but what about 3rd hand? 3rd hand clothes are the sort of thing you make by cutting up your mums old clothes and combining them with odd bits of materials. In terms of end product think Bjork. Ready made 3rd hand doesn't however come cheap but you wont see another quite like it

DNA is probably one of the best stores for shoes in Oslo as they carry many brands and models. It is the perfect place for finding a new pair of sandals, stillettos or sneakers. (girls 16-26). Prices are relatively low, some brands are pricier though. The shoes are trendy and fashionable. The store is quite small and there are only two stores in Oslo.
What to pay: 200 NOK - 1000 NOK (depends on brand and model)

This is the perfect shop for anyone who's into kitchen supplies, cooking or decorating. The store carries many well-known quality brands, both Scandinavian and international such as Marimekko, Alessi, Eva Solo, Stelton, Lisbeth Dahl. Apart from kitchen supplies, you will find lots of pretty things for your home, both practical and just fun and beautiful objects. No matter what you're shopping budget is you can find something to bring back to your home/room/pet.
What to buy: I love the beautiful dessert bowls by marimekko, the lovely furry rug by lisbeth dahl and they have many pretty photo frames.
What to pay: Prices vary from 40 NOK and up...

Norway is not exactly the place to buy CD’s as they are obviously cost here more then in your home country. With the exception of course that I was buying local Norwegian bands CD’s where you cannot find anywhere else.
What to buy: Raga Rockers

Bare Jazz is a nifty little CD shop and cafe for Jazz fans, nestled in a little courtyard just off Grensen (one of the main shopping street in the city centre.) This is a good place to find out what's going on in the local jazz scene. They have a good selection of recent CD releases, by both international and Norwegian artists. The cafe upstairs is intimate and charming, and occasionally there are live performances. This is a hidden gem of the city!

"Salg" is a word that every visitor to Oslo should know. It means "sale", and it can make the difference between extremely high prices and rather decent prizes for all kinds of products. I've found that the winter months are a good time for search out the serious "salgs" in Oslo, when many stores large and small are clearing out last year's merchandise to make way for the new. Deep discounts of 40%, 50%, or even 70% can be found, which can make high priced goods affordable even for exchange-rate whacked Americans.
What to buy: Poullson is a small shop with nice linens: drapes and bedding for example. I picked up a few tablecloths here during their "deep" salg of mid-winter last year.

Farmers' Market is a periodical market area where farmers set up their stalls to seel their goods and foods. This is an organised effort at bringing good quality foods and handicrafts directly to the market from a selected series of farms.
What to buy: Depends on which city you are visiting, but woolen and wooden handicrafts are common, ecologically grown foods and specialized foods, cured meats, fish, breads, jams and what have you. Not your average carrot market. A very good and wholesome market place where you can get real goods for real prices to the local farmers. The market is organised by ecological organisations, farmers unions, farm and village tourism and the cooperative movement.
What to pay: Real prices for quality products, but no expensive middle operator.

byporten is a bit more expensive than Oslo city, but you'll find more exclusive shops here. byporten is dominated by young people. I have often met young people working there chewing gum and talking on their cell phone while they're talking to customers. So in general I'm not to impressed by the service there . But on the positive side, it's much more quiet there, not so many noisy kids
What to pay: a lot

Alot of people think Karl Johan is the place to go shopping. Wrong. Bogstad-veien (bogstad road) has the same as Karl johan, but much more variety. Here you will more special stores. Also check out the sidestreets to it.
Bygdøy allé is smaller, but with more exclusive stores. Also more design-stores.
This is one of the top 3 places to shop if you're looking for exclusive stuff in Norway.
What to buy: World-wide known Scandinavian FASHION, and DESIGN.
